I know this has probably been discused many times but I am fairly new to Canada having fled Tony Blair's regimental state back in the UK, yes the very country where all handguns were banned over a shooting that should never have happened had the police done there job correctly.

Having left my homemade case tumbler back in England ( 240 volts ) I now find the need to replace it with something that is both effective at cleaning and fairly quiet to run.

What suggestions do you have, and what is the best media to use?:pirate:

Get a Dillon. I get crushed walnut from the pet shop and put in some Dillon polish. Cases come out lovely.

Where in UK are you from ? I'm from east London border with Essex.

When I got mine, I wasn't too sure of what to get. What I settled on is the RCBS Sidewinder as with it I can use the either the walnut shell, corn and/or also a liquid media, if need be. Seems to work fairly well and as I've never used another it's hard to run a true comparison, but so far I'm happy.

I'm from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, the spa town set in the Cotswolds, the Polish migrants now run almost every buisness and all transport systems are now also run by them, don't get me wrong the Polish people are workers its just there are more of them than true Cheltonians. we are out numbered due to lax border controls and crap government controls.
The last straw was when Polish road signs started appearing around town.

I imagine that other languages would be even less welcome!

Welcome to Canada, I am a ex-kiwi myself, almost 30 years now!:D

....back to tumblers.....

I'd get the biggest going. I think that's the Dillon, but not absolutely sure.

For media, I go with 50 pound bags of blasting media (crushed walnut) from a local sandblasting supply house. (approx. retail of $30)

I use a RCBS, but if I bougth one today, i'd buy a Lyman because they are

A) Inexpensive and probably use the same motor

B) Have a cool chute to seperate media and cases

We'll let you away with that one. It was polish. Theres some other ethnisities you wouldnt want to try that with. Were a selectively prejiduce bunch:D

RCBS green tumbler ALL THE WAY,
this is a great product...mine serves me for the last 15 years or so without any problem...
another reason is that RCBS stands behind their products and has great customer service...
three years ago I called them and ordered a small measering replacement cylinder for my RCBS Powder dispenser...got it after only one week and best of all it was FREE OF ANY CHARGE...
The only other company I know with this kind of service is Smith&Wesson...

:agree: I have been using mine for twenty years. Some of the rubber bushings started to deteriorate, a call to RCBS & new ones arrived within the week. Great company with excellent customer service.:)

I use an RCBS about 20 years. Walnut shells from a "SAND Blasting" supply house. I add rouge and IOSSO case cleaner to the mix. Casese come out beautiful (and clean)!!!

By the way I am looking for the Iosso case cleaner. Cant find a supplier here in Edmonton. Anyone know of a supplier?

I have a Lyman Turbo 1200 with auto flow. Been in use for over 10 years with zero problems. The best part is pull the plug and the media pours out into a bowl leaving just brass to pick up and dump out.

Exactly.

everyone is saying "buy a Dillon", "RCBS all the way"... but why? It's just a bowl with a motor, and you have the hassle of separating out the media.

With the Lyman Auto-Flo , the separator is built-into the tumbler. Less dust and mess, less space to store a big-ass separator, etc. it's the only way to go.

With most cases, I don't have to pick/dump. Just leave the thing running for a while and the media will hop out of the cases on it's own.

i replaced my tumbler ( a lyman 3200) a couple of years back with a 2500- the 32 was real noisy( had to have it in the garage when working- no fun in -45 weather) but the 2500 is quiet enough to have it downstairs and the chute drain is a real time saver- the plug is a b*tch to get out, and i still use the rcbs media seperator( if you haven't got one of these , do yourself a favor and get one) as you still get media inside the cases after you drain

I'm saying buy the big ass Dillon one because I've been having my tumbler (Hornady) run pretty much continuously now for about a week and a half cleaning .223 brass....
I view brass tumbling like I do laundry -less loads the better!

+2 the RCBS seperator works great and it keeps the media from going all over the place too.
