I have some older cases and some practically new ones.
The old ones I don't want to throw as they have some use in them but I'm wondering which would cause the least pressure.
One load is a 75gn bullet and the other an 87gn bullet and both are fairly close to maximum loads.
Would the heavier or lighter bullet cause less pressure or is it irrelevant as both loads are close to maximums?
Factors like bullet length come into it?

Your heavier bullet should give the higher initial pressure, due to the fact that A) it is heavier, requiring more energy to get it in motion.B)Providing the designs are similar it would probably have a longer bearing surface. In short what I'm trying to say that if all things are equal including bullet style the heavier should create higher pressures

Powder companies measure chamber presssure when working up loads. Bullet weight doesn't matter when they are at or near max loads for that given weight. Only pressure is measured.

eg. .243 winchester---46g of H414 with a 70g bullet = 49,800CUP
With a 100g bullet, 40g of H414 = 49,900CUP (Hodgdon basic manual)

Loads are developed to a certain safe, maximum working pressure. Lighter or heavier bullets USING THE SAME POWDER CHARGE will definately have an effect on pressure.
But that wasn't what he was asking.
Clear enough for you?

If we take same caliber and same weight load of powder, for example
.243Win with Win760- 45.0gr
and use two bullets in same caliber with different weight the pressure with heavier bullet will increase.
Here is my computer data:
Hornady 70gr SP causes 47,000psi
Hornady 100gr SP causes 68,300psi
where max safe pressure for .243Win is around 60,200psi
