Greetings my gun friends,

So... I am looking for a CZ 557 in .308 and am just about to pick one up. I have read many conflicting reports about which models are a true short action and which are a modified long action. Models I am interested in include the 557 Carbine, 557 Lux, and 557 ranger.

Does anyone know how it all breaks down?

Matt

Looks like CZ is starting to produce the 557 in short action - Specifically, the Sporter is listed on the US site as available in short action. In Europe, the Lux model is also listed as available in short action.
I can't find any reference to the Range Rifle being available in Short action.
I just picked up a 557 Carbine .308 with the standard action (not short) carbine at a great price from Northern Elite Firearms. Taking it to the range today....Is a beauty!

Nice, that is exactly the gun and deal I am looking at... so you have totally answered my question.

I have been on the fence between this and other rifles and just when I am about to go the composite, light weight direction I shoulder a CZ and look through the iron sights and feel at home!

DTM5, was picattiny rail included?

? Looks like a very nice rifle with the floor plate style internal magazine. I think thebonky difference between these and the Ranger 557 is the picitany rail mount and the removable box magazines. I preordered a ranger already or would have been all over this deal. I tried to promote it a bit in a few posts because the price was great. CZ rifles are quality pieces.

Does the bolt handle feel slightly larger than on the 527? I find that one ever so slightly short for my preference.

Just set down a deposit on the 557 Carbine from Northern Elite.

The local stores have all been saying the new models could take 3-6+ months to get in and need mine at least for July to get all practiced up for the season.

That ranger looks pretty sweet. That rail and the short action is worth the extra dough in my mind if you have the time.

No picatinny rail not included; I actually prefer the integral 19mm CZ rail.....Makes using QD rings very easy and accurate. https://warnescopemounts.com/product/14blm-30mm-cz-550-quick-detach-medium-matte-rings/
Plus, its a classic hunter...I want to keep the look 'euro' vs tactical.
The bolt handle does seem larger than the 527. I'm more of a detachable magazine guy, but like my buddy said about the internal mag with floorplate - "Thats awesome, i can't lose a mag again!"
