Narrowing down a few choices- which one would you choose and why ?

Purpose - plinking at 50 yards and planning to add LPVO. Thanks!

Henry Big Boy X Model - .357 Mag

Henry Big Boy Brass Lever Action Rifle, Large Loop, 20" in 357

Henry Big Boy Large Loop Steel 16.5 357/38

I like the BB color case hardened rifle/carbine, although I prefer the pistol grip of the x model over the straight grip.

I have the Henry big boy steel 357 20" large loop and it's awesome.
Super accurate and even my buds 8yr old could comfortably shoot full 158gr loads with it. One of my "never sells".
Never had a single issue with feeding or firing. I only shoot 357 out of it.
Haven't tried 38special. Don't see a point in it.
Buy one and smile.
Good luck choosing.

If you see one next to a new marlin, most likely you will save more and get the marlin. Try it out in person and see.

That's not my experience.

I own several Henrys in:
  • 22lr
  • 357
  • 30-30
  • 44 magnum
and they are all great.

I owned probably 15 Marlins in my "career", and the Henrys are hands down the much better guns.
They don't have the annoying trigger slag, and the fit and finish is excellent.

The Marlin 1894 in 44 magnum, from the new Ruger production, that I owned recently, was not as well fitted and finished as the Rossi that I had at the same time.

I still own one JM Marlin XLR in 45-70, which is a nice rifle, but I would NOT buy one of the wayyyy overpriced new ones. I would rather buy a Turkish made Morrison.

I find brass heavy, i love my big boy x in 3030, dropped a couple deer this year with it under 50 yards.

the fiber optic sights with two different colours came up and I lined them up almost instinctively, like automatic.

I can't do that with henry's iron sights. Especially with that chunky front blade sight. really difficult. I would of took a lot more time lining up my shot and probably missed my opportunity.

for plinking? Can't go wrong with any of them. it doesn't really matter. 357 is cheap to load especially 38 spl. i will say big boy x has threaded barrel so that's a plus!

The .357 is also a heavy summb!tch. The Supreme is about a pound lighter (If that matters to you). Also, 5.56/.223 is also a bit cheaper than .357 so if you're using it for mostly plinking that adds up.

This is why I would like to keep 38spl as an option.
