which is the better deal?

Apples and oranges. Personally I would tend toward the 338 and I think that $500 is a pretty decent price for that rifle, if it's new. To me the 243 is nearly the least interesting cartridge in the world so $600 for any 243 is asinine.

You could hunt anything in North America with the .338, but the .243 is limited to small or light skinned game, so that makes the .338 a better deal for me.:D

That's a pretty smokin' price on the CZ. Aren't they close to a grand new? The Weatherby is a good gun too providing you like the fit of the stock (or maybe the laminate is a more traditional stock). Either/or depending on what you've got and what you want.

Both are good guns and those prices seem reasonable to me, but it depends what you want it for. That determines which calibre you should choose.

okay yeah. i do not 'need' another rifle by all means. just want to take advantage of the deals in town. i have a 7 rem mag, and a 375 H&H. both would take care of any problem i have. i was thinking of the 243 CZ if i was to take a friend hunting maybe. or a little brother. but then i was thinking maybe the 338 would be a fun one to have.

That would make you the "least interesting man in the world"

I have a fondness for CZs. Currently have 2 that I bought new. Wish I had known about them sooner but then I would have bought a 308 or 30-06 instead.
European grade rifles and the quality shows.
