Hey fella's I am looking for some insight to a decision I am trying to make. I have a Sako 75 7mm STW with a VXIII 4.5-14x40 (standard duplex) scope mounted in Opti-Loc's. This is going to be my long range hunting rig for deer, moose. My decision I am trying to make is, which long range aiming/shooting system to have my scope sent into Korth to be upgraded to, the Boone & Crockett reticle or having a target turret installed?? I know the Boone & Crockett would be some what close for bullet drop and the turrets would be pretty much dead on, but what do most of you use?? I do have a Leica CRF1200 rangefinder and will be practicing with this gun at extended ranges, but I am looking for your guys experience with this decision. Thanks

I thought I would go the CDS route but as J.S mentioned it all changes when you want to change your load. This is when I thought the target turret would work best, but then I hear a lot of people liking their B&C reticle's to, but again it's just "close" and does change as well with different loads. Anybody run the M1 turret on their VXIII??Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Depends what you consider long range I guess. The B&C reticle will put you close to 500 yards but it's a pretty rudimentary reticle compared to others. Your best bet it likely one of the turret systems if you want to stick with the Leupold. At least that way it's adjustable.

1/4 min target turrets. Learn to use your rangefinder, ballistics program or drop sheet, test your load.

See, range, dial, aim, hit.

BDC turrents and reticles are only approximate and the further you go, the worse they behave.

See article in my website under optics tech. Works you through this process.

Enjoy...

With load specific turrets and reticles you are correct but there is a fully adjustable, range specific reticle that is accurate even at long ranges......

Because you can't adjust the reticle. It's positioning, arrangement, and layout is fixed. You can adjust the windage and elevation and the magnification settings, but the reticle itself cannot be adjusted.

What do you think adjusting the magnification does?

Hint: the reticle is etched on the second focal plane.

Thanks for the info fella's. As for range I'll be practicing at will be around 500-550yds. I want to be proficient with my gun/loads to make a clean shot if one presents itself. That's why I didn't think the B&C wouldn't be close enough for accurate bullet drop(??) and that's why I was thinking turrets. Thanks for all your responses.....
