So I think I need a .22 M1 to go with my Tommy and MG42 10/22's but I can't decide which to go with the 10/22 build or just buy a chiappa. A 10/22 would be consistent with my others but a lot more work to make it look accurate. The chiappa is off the shelf. A 10/22 is bullet proof (pardon the pun) reliable the chiappa, I don't know?

What are your thoughts?

I am a big fan of WWII firearms and of .22 lr firearms, but have resisted the urge to mix the two, so far. Most .22's designed or adapted to look like a WWII firearm are not a very accurate reproduction of the WWII firearm and are also not great shooters. So my advise regarding your question would be to buy a real M1 carbine or a realisitic looking airsoft M1 and hang it on the wall and shoot a modern, accurate .22. Of course I would break my own rule in a heartbeat for a 100% accurate Thompson .22 (most of the ones I have seen are only vaguely similar to the real thing).

You right you can only get so close with the "kits". Here's my Tommy, the bolt knob, rear sight and barrel help the look, but it's never going to be a real 1928 A1

I mean only other M1 carbine 22 copy I know out there is the Erma Werk (SP ) I would pick the 10/22. Stick with the trend of 10/22 copies.

What really ticks me off, is that there are .22 Thompsons, we are just not allowed to own them:

Look at finding a used Marlin 989 M1 or M2 , one is tube fed and the other box mag fed .
I have one , it's a beautiful little tack driver .

I think mines the 989 as its box fed ....the tube fed might be a 99 .....anyhoos , there's one for sale on the ee right now . I'd like to buy it to go with mine but Christmas bills are a priority right now .

I am sure the Marlin is a nice rifle, but do you really think it looks like an M1 Carbine?

About as much as a ruger cloned to look like one does , as the action in the ruger and the Marlin are similar to each other . Neither have action like the M1 . The chiappa looks more like the original but I once handled one and was unimpressed . Too much plastic for my taste .

I bought a cheapappa for @ 250....thats about what its worth. Shoots fine if you dont mind holding the mags as you shoot, the magwells were made a wee bit large. Ive contemplated wedging my marlin 795 into an old carbine stock with tech sights on top, just to have one thats shoots flawlessly.

And yes the chiappa sight are plastic crap, still looking for real m1 sights.

I wanted a 9mm version of the chiappa my but the reviews were such a mixed bag that I decided to pass. It would seem that some of them run flawlessly, but the majority have issues.
