This whole thought exercise started when I began to think it might be time to relegate my Anschutz CIL 190 to second string. I've had it for nearly 30 years and it may be time to give the old girl a break. But then I started to think what was even out there today that would be equivalent? CZ, Anschutz, something else perhaps? Based on action I guess the following would be close:

Anschutz 1903 Jr (http://www.nordicmarksman.com/1903-Junior.html#nogo)
Anschutz 1903 (http://www.nordicmarksman.com/1903-Small-Bore-Target-Rifle.html)
Anschutz 64MP R (http://www.nordicmarksman.com/64-MP-R-Multi-Purpose-2.html)

What are your thoughts on a good replacement for the venerable 190?

A 64 action Anschutz is what it is. My two Annies have taken a back seat to my CZ's. Mostly I shoot a 452, Lux or FS. The Ultra and Scout come out to play too. The 455FS will need some exercise soon too. Thought about buying an Anschutz 1710 but putting bulk ammo through that probably will give the same results as attained with the CZ guns.

All great. But I can't help but wonder if any model from 2015 would be as popular or still be as popular 40+ years later.

Doubt it. The market is much more fragmented now.

But if anything, it would probably be either a CZ or an Anschutz. People buy them, and keep them, and keep them in good condition.

What would you be using the new rifle for, target or a hunter/plinker? For the hunting/plinking CZ is hard to beat, if for targets stepping up to an Anschutz 54 action would be my choice.

Personnally I use my 190 for "sporting rifle" matches (although we aren't to strict and don't follow SFC to the letter for equipment specs). But the vast majority of competitors at these matches use 190's like I do and they haven't been made since before I was born and I'm almost 46.

What other rifle can say that and is there a modern equivalent that our kids will be shooting so ubiquitously, 40+ years from now?
