Given the recent influx of Non-Restricted AR-10 Receiver sets, I am getting the itch to buy and build my first NR do it all AR-10 (ish) to keep my other 7.62mm NATO rifles company. Been out of the loop off late so have spent some time reading up on the contenders but the more I read the more unsure I get on which one to buy as besides cosmetic differences they seem pretty identical.

So, asking for opinions from the more informed: Which receiver set would you recommend that I buy and why ? Price is not an issue as I plan to keep it but quality in workmanship and fit and finish is important. Not in a rush to build so availability timeline is not a constraint as I am still looking for the jewelry to tack on to the receiver set.

If there is good feedback, I will consolidate it by manufacturer and place it in the first post as a handy summary reference.

Rules:
1. DO post your real world (both objective and subjective) experiences, observations and insights as they pertain to these 4 choices.
2. If you want to geek out your recommendation with tech specs, I would love it!
3. DO NOT flame or sling mud. I am hoping this turns into an informative discussion of pros/cons of the different choices.
4. DO post pix of your builds. If you are planning to build, I would be interested to know the what/why.
5. If the manufacturers want to chime in, feel free to - but keep it classy.

Buy the Stag... there are boat loads of posts on the forum here of people having parts compatibility issues with the BCL 102, and the ATRS rifle has a specific bolt carrier if I recall correctly.

Parts commonality, compatibility and known standard i.e. DPMS pattern, the Stag 10 wins hands down.

The MDI and ATRS are AR15 pattern receivers. No 7.62x51 for you.

Aaand the ATRS is called the modern sporter. A variant of their modern varmint, but without the proprietary parts.

Either way, I'd go with the Stag over the BCL, just based on both companies track record. Or perceived track record, as it were.

Not a valid poll. Only 2 of your options are 308 based platforms to my knowledge.

Edited to add, Stag of course. Don't know how anyone could think otherwise!

Well pointed out that the Maccabee Defense SLR and ATRS MV-S are both in 5.56mm NATO. I overlooked that. Duh! Can't seem to edit the poll so ignore those options. Stag vs BCL it is then. Narrows it down further.

The ATRS MV-S is in 7.62mm NATO tho.

The modern HUNTER is in 7.62x51/.308 Win (Or 6.5 creed, or .260 rem), but it is not available as a receiver set. And uses proprietary parts, like the modern varmint.

My vote goes to stag. I had the 102. I sold the 102
I kept the new stainless match barrel sounds it showes promise.

The ceracote application on my 102 was piss poor. It was covered in over spray and was worn through to the base aluminum in spots from handling. I had a aero fde received kit that was hard as nails compared to this.

The stag kit offers a far more broad parts pool. No mix and matching like the 102
It comes with the forward assist and traditional shell deflector. Sometimes looks are everything. And it is dehornded. Grab onto the Magwell of the 102 and you will see what I mean.

Plus the stag will accept any style of buffer tube and still capture the buffer retainer unlike the 102.

I can't wait for mine to arrive from irg along with the 15" mwi handguard

Thanks for the replies chaps. I think this one is overwhelmingly in favour of the Stag 10. So a Stag 10 it is. Good points on the parts compatibility and overall fit & finish on the BCL.

Question for anyone who has seen/ handled or currently owns the Stag 10 receiver sets: How is the quality of the machining and the overall fit and finish ?

It’s excellent. I originally bought 2 sets, I was so happy with them I ordered 4 more sets

The Stag 10 is definitely a better value for money spent, but the BCL is my choice because I really want my AR10 to have an ambi bolt release. As such I am starting with a raw reciever set and getting it lightened before it gets anodized.

I would buy a Phase 5 before I bought a BCL102 for its ambi bolt release.
