Where do I start, should an over under trap gun be chambered in 2-3/4 or 3", what barrel length should I look for??? Whats the best entry level OU can't afford a Browning. HELP

Trap guns, are rather specialized target guns, generally speaking not the best suited for hunting. As such, many are chambered only for 2-3/4" shells ... but of late, many are being chambered in 3" as well. If your purpose is Trap only, I wouldn't hesitate to take a 2-3/4" gun.

As far as O/U's go, a Browning or similar quality target gun like a Beretta or Caesar Guerini, etc., are in my opinion, "entry level" target guns. If "new" isn't in the budget, I'd look for a well-taken care of used one. You may find a good deal on an older Winchester 101 Trap, Chas. Daly (Miroku) or Classic Doubles Trap, Citori or "68x" series Beretta for example. Likely something in the $ 900 - $1500 range.

Other lower-priced makes are out there, but the economy Turkish, Russian & South American made "target" guns are likely to disappoint.

Most would likely recommend a 30 or 32" O/U Trap gun with interchangeable choke tubes, or a choke-tubed bottom barrel with a fixed, Full choke top barrel. An older fixed choke Mod/Full or Full/Full would also work. If you're not familiar
with double guns, I'd have an experianced friend give any used Trap gun a good once- over, as one might expect - target guns tend to have a high round count.

Spend a Sunday or two at a couple of clubs and see what everyone else is shooting. You should notice that a few brands seem to be in the "majority"... popularity is perhaps a pretty good indication of both reliability and value. Introduce yourself as a "beginner looking to buy a good O/U gun" ... you may well be invited to try a few different ones for yourself to see what you like. You'll certainly be on the receiving end of a few opinions as well. Might even be a good gun or two for sale posted on the Club bulletin Board.

Have a look in the EE forums (Equipent Exchange) Sporting Arms & Shotguns. FS first ... or join & post a WTB (Want to Buy).
