Which one do you like? How would you proceed?

The almost new one with a dent in the scabbard or the rusty one that looks like someone purposely stripped the bluing off (unless they made some without bluing)? Both have nice wood handles though.

I'm thinking that I'll try to get the surface rust off of the one, to make it shiny like the rest of it. What would you use to do so? I'm pretty sure I'll never get the wood handles off, not going to try. Should I Krylon the mofo?

Think there's any way to bump that dent out of the scabbard?
 
There is rust inside the bayonet loop, so I can't get the rusty one onto the barrel. That's definitely something I must correct and not "leave it as it is".
 
Rust is rust and is very seldom and indication of anything other than improper storage or someone with sweaty hands.

Stopping the rust will stop any more deterioration. In the case of those bayonets I would use something that will eat the rust away but not stain the bezels.

I use 000000 steel wool with a few drops of WIPE OUT. Without applying much pressure use circular movement to apply the WIPE OUT to the rusty areas. Let it sit for half an hour or so and repeat. The WIPE OUT will dissolve the rust and it will just wipe away easily. DO NOT TRY to smooth out or repair the pits that were created.

Rubbed a little WD40 on the rusty areas, let it penetrate, used fine steel wool and 90% of the corrosion is gone. I was worried about the inside of the bayo loop, but it appears the surface rust has disappeared. Hopefully it will now install over my barrel.

Never heard of Wipe Out.

The other bayo is almost flawless, scabbard and bayo have matching #'s. Not going to do a thing to it.
