Been looking for a range plinker for a bit,and narrowed it down to a GSG 16 or the STG 44 .22...I'm not familiar with either and I'm guessing both actions are similar mechanically.?...which one would you pick, and why ?

Cheers...R...

GSG16 would be my second choice, but I would prefer a shorter barrel. 9" is too short, the LOP is really long on it to keep it NR (14" give or take IIRC, but I wanted something with a collapsing stock for my kids to use) and you can't hunt with a 9" barrel in BC. The 16" GSG16 has been on sale for VERY reasonable prices recently, they're certainly tempting...

MP44 LOOKS sweet, but the stock has kept me from buying one. LOOKS awesome, but under folders are rarely all that great to actually use.

Mean the STG 44 or MP40?

I had a STG44 and a GSG 16.. The STG was heavy and bulky. But it was wood and steel vs plastic. Good news is you can use MP5 mount on it.

Personally if I were to choose between the two I’d definitely go with the stg/mp44. Can’t say it’s exactly a good reason but I just happen to like the looks of the stg better over the mp5.

Haven't really decided yet,but both seem to be decent for tin cans...plastic dosen't bother me,..lighter weight..

Yeah my scope STG 44 was like 10#. Because the super long mag it made it annoying to shoot benched.
GSG 16 did a couple inches at 50, good enough for cans.

I can only watch so many YouTube videos,I'd prefer to actually get a chance to handle 'em..but that's not likely..it sucks not having shops to check out..

I have a a couple dressed sporter 10/22’s so I am good for semi autos but would definitely go for the 44. The 16 is cool but its just a plastic kit to dress up when the 44 is all metal and wood and a seriously cool piece to show off!

guy at my club has an mp40 22lr. The underfold stock sucked, as do all underfolders. Trying to aim with it was meh. Cool to look at, and to just blast away like cross of iron

Well our rifle (GSG16) is so much fun. It ran flawlessly with CCI, Blazer, Aquila and Winchester wildcat. Even accidentally shot some subsonic .22 LR. Didn't cycle of course. Will buy a red dot or reflex soon. Maybe shot 250 rounds overall

I get more enjoyment from a more accurate gun. Most are not the mil look though. Good luck.

I am the same, if I must have a semi auto, it will not be either of the two, probably a version of the 10/22, or a used TC. I did have a Volquartsen, that I enjoyed shooting, because it was so easy to shoot fast accurately.
