Is there a link where I could find which years SKS were fitted with chromed bores and what series got firing pins with return spring?

Non chrome bore 1949-part1951, chrome 1951-1956. For spring loaded firing pin,1949-part1951.

Also try googling "yooperj sks".
His site is the holy grail of SKS info on the net.
Sometimes the bandwidth gets exceeded and it crashes though.
So if you can't get on it right away try again a few days later.

For basic info the stickies at the top of each section are great. From there you dive into the deep end on various topics. Still, there are guys there there that own literally HUNREDS of SKSs each and are more than willing to help with any question.
