Hi everyone,

I just picked up most of my reloading equipment, primers, Hornady 55Gr (to start) and a good Book,

one thing I can't find in the book is the recommended powders, it tells me how many grains for X powder to use but that is it.

what do you all recommended for a Remington 700 sps varmint in .223.

this is for 100 to 300 yard target (not competitions yet)

Thanks

Luc

I use soley the IMR 3031 pushing the 55gr FMJs. Great at the range. Even better at the gopher meadows. Every one has thier own mix and by trial and error and testing, you will find the best combination for your gun. Not all like the same recipe.

You can also use ball powders with good results and they meter very well. Your manual should give you loads for W748,BLC2,AA2230 and H335-all excellent in the .223. If you are into volume shooting,as I have done with gopher guns, you can speed up the process by throwing charges of ball powders, rather than weighing out individual charges of the stick powders.Having said that, IMR 3031 is still a favorite, but those big bulky powder logs do not work thru a powder measure.

I love Varget! I have it for breakfast too, tastes good with chocolate milk :)

I shoot a Remington 700 VTR .223 and have been reloading for about 3 months and have 2 very accurate loads using Varget.

"...recommended powders..." Manuals don't give that. Even powder maker's books. Of course, they want you to buy a pound of every powder they list for each bullet weight. I've always started with whatever powder is given for the 'accuracy load' in my Lyman manual.
