How would you rank the following pump shotguns w.r.t. the "looseness" of their forends, i.e. the amount of fore-aft, rotational and sideways play (a.k.a. the Rattle factor):

- Remington 870
- Mossberg 590
- Ithaca 37
- Benelli Nova
- Winchester 1300
- Browning BPS
- Fabarm Martial

(*The bottom three were added Mar 3/07)

Nova

I have one, and it is a quick, reliable gun. The fore-end rattles far too much though (sideways movement) This can be fixed by tightening up the action bars, but Im still looking for the right size allen key to do it!

My Maverick 88s fore end rocks back and forth abit, but over all it is very reliable. :)
(double action bar)

Some of the older pumps with a single action bar felt a little looser than those with two. If memory serves, it's been along time since I've seen one, I think the Ithica M-37 has a single action bar, so there will be more lateral movement felt in the fore-end. I doubt if there is much difference amongst those with twin action bars when the guns are loaded.

X2, My 37 is pretty good at doin 'the twist'.(1 action bar)
870, a lil bit, however, well within specs of what I'd call a solid fore end.

My Mossberg is much looser than my Ithaca 37, but they both work as they were intended to. Too tight an action means more chance for jamming with a chunk of mud picked up in the pit blind. It's not an indication of poor quality.
