So, I've just purchased a revolver for IDPA (I've hadn't owned a CF revolver in 25 or so years). I have a holster coming in from Solely Canadian (thanks Tim) and a belt from Amazon.ca (gotta like that free shipping option). That leaves me needing speed loaders and something to carry them in.

Questions for you long time revolver guys, what are your recommendations in regards to speed loaders? I'm feeling the push to release type would be better (faster?) than twist to release. What are your brand preference & model? What say ye? Thanks.

Been a while since I looked at or used speed loaders but HKS and Safariland are basically the 2 go to brands AFAIK.
I like the Safariland for the push factor. Their Comp 3(?) extended design with the long " push" thingy, for lack of a better term, seems to be very popular. The HKS and the smaller Comp 1 and 2s are more compact and more in line with the spirit of IDPA, IMO.

I'm sure NB is a very good and knowledgeable source of info in this area. Talk to him at the next match.

What revolver did you get?

I personally liked the safariland Comp 3's
Until i started using moon clips.... Moon clips are the best IMHO.

Depending on your revolver you can get the cylinder modified to accept moon clips.

I will talk to Nick & the gang on the October match. The holster is at least six weeks out so no hurry to buy.
OP: What revolver do you have?
S&W 686 "Canadian" 4.25" barrel .38/357. I'm itching to get it out to the range.

Safariland Comp 3 is by far the most popular.

They have a really long handle, and you don't need to turn them.
You basically just stab the open cylinder with them.

They can be used either strong or weak hand.

safari land comp 3's all the way.

but if you want to really be fast get your cylinder cut for moon clips. i suggest making that decision before you go buying all your speed loaders and crap though. i learned that the hard way. i got all geared up and now i hate the speed loaders. i wish i would have gone with moon clips off the bat.
