Hi im want to get a rifle do do some coyote hunting but also want to get into deer hunting as well. what rifle do u think is best?

i was thinking rem 700 or 770 in a .270 cal

A big no on the rem 770. Take a look at some of the savage combos, the Marlin XL7, even the Mossberg ATR will be alot better than a 770.

If I was picking a cartridge stricly for deer and 'yotes it'd be .243win.

I would go Savage in .270, .308, or 30-06. The 30-06 will do anything on the continent with no issues(only say this because its the legal minimum to hunt wood bison with here). The .308 and .270 have about the same energy(slightly less than 30-06..not perceivable to the shooter really) but the .270 uses lighter bullets.

So if you want a one size fits all get the 30-06 and shoot 150gr bullets for coyote and deer and 180gr+ for everything else. The .308 is more or less a 30-06 with a shorter case and marginally less power(also used by many long distance shooters). The .270 will shoot faster and 'flatter' than the above mentioned as it uses a lighter bullet.

The 30-06 is probably going to have your largest bullet selection off the shelf. The .270 and .308 you should still be able to find everywhere included walmart/canadian tire etc but with a more limited selection.

But seriously they will all perform well...it's mostly what fits/feels good and budget(if you've handled a remmy and you like it..go for it). You can spend as much or as little as you like on a rifle and it will still kill things the same. Same goes for bullets. Many will piss about accuracy but any modern rifle will out perform the ones used by daily hunters back in the day. Same goes for ammunition. If your pride can take groupings of 2" at 100 yards that is....

go with the 700 in 243 great cross between coyote and deer the wife has one in a youth model she used it for deer i use it for coyote a little short but it does the job

7mm-08, best friggin thing out there!!! ;)

Can go 100 grain or up to 168 grain effectively.Gophers to moose with no issues.Plinking or competition shooting.

Accurate , flat shooting, and low recoil.

As for the rifle, that is a formality, get the one that fits you the best, that is what will give you the best results.

Any .243 and up will work, just hit your target.

Personally I favor the 700 Remington.

Avoid the 770 and look for a good used 700 if your budget won't allow for new.

If you really must live with one rifle for deer and coyotes, I'd consider the .243/6mm as a minimum and the .308/.30-06 as a maximum. The .25-06 and .270 fit very nicely in the middle ground as would the .260 Rem or 7mm-08.

Stevens 243 is gun I would recommend. Cheap fun and will work for yotes and deer. I picked up one for 300 plus shipping on CGN. Also 243 will teach proper shooting skills because it will not cause you to flinch because of recoil. Can buy 50 grain up to 100 grain so good for yotes up to deer.

If you have size restrictions to worry about I would seriously look at 260 Rem , or 6.5 x 55.Although your budget may not allow this. You could also check out tradex, see what is hiding there.Maybe Savage 11 models also.EE is a place to check also.

Both will down game including moose and bear.

But remember that fit and comfort are more important than size and chambering.

my budjet is $500 ish and where i live .270 is the biggest round legaly to use on small game.

does savage even still make the combination guns?
