I have two scopes picked out a bushnell 6500 4.5-16 mill-dot or leupold vx11 6-18 LRV.I have had great luck with my leupolds but might try a bushnell 6500 which one would you choose and why.

What type of terrain are you hunting in? At what range?

I've got a 4x12x40 on my 22-250. In the tight terrain I have access to I keep it on 4 to aid in fast target acquisition.

I'm partial to Leupold but with the two choices you have there I would go with the Bushnell. If you anticipate any type of close in terrain the Leupold at the lowest setting might be too much.

right now i have my nikon 6.5 to 20 on my varmint rifle .nice scope, if i were startin over again with a new rifle i would go with a fixed 6 power scope.when were coyote huntin the animals are comin in to you .

Neither. I would go with something with less power (2-7,3-9,3-10) Higher power is terrible for quick up close shots which is I have been presented the most on coyotes.

The Bushnell 6500s come in 2.5-16 and 4.5-30 and are very nice scopes, 30mm tubes, very clear...probably the best scopes for the money.

If you're gonna be shooting coyotes mainly over bait I'd choose one of those scopes...probably the Bushnell as I've heard that the glass is a little better. But if you're calling, I'd go with less power...2-7, 2.5-8, or even a fixed 6X. The Leupold VXIII 2.5-8X36 is outstanding for calling.

I should have said it is for long range shots.I'm leaning towards the leupy because they are so reliable,i have never sent a leupy for repair i will see how people like their bushnell 6500's

My coyote rifle runs a standard 3-9X40 and I wouldn't change it. I've shot coyotes at well over 400 yards with a straight 6X, and can easily see clay pigeons at 500 yards with a 9X.

Just my 2 cents here but one of the nicest scopes I have had the pleasure of owning over the last few years was a Weaver Grand Slam. :)

Power is really your preference but I have a 4-12x & it's a pretty good comprimize between faster target aquisition & long range pin point accuracy:)
