Which scope and ring mounting system is best on a big game gun like a 30-06 or larger? I have seen a few on the market recently such as:

Leupold "turn in" style bases and rings with adjustable windage at rear.

Weaver base and weaver bar rings with dovetail sqrew down.

Millet straight up dovetail base and rings.

All three mentioned work well if they are quality and installed and tightened properly. Personally, I prefer steel rings and bases. Burris Signature Custom Zee rings, the kind with the plastic inserts are great, if you can find them. Cabella's doesn't carry them, and WSS was out of stock last time I wanted some.

On my go to hunting rifle, a Stevens 30-06, my Burris rides in Talley Lightweights. I think they're the best system out there with the exception of any system with integral bases (ala Ruger).

Grizzlepeg - Prairie Gun Traders in Avonlea SK usually has a good selection of Burris rings with inserts.

I would take a look at the Leupold PRW rings and bases, very solid and not unreasonable $$

Talley

I am interested in the Talley Lightweight 1pc mounting system. I have a Remington 760 that I want to mount a 1" 3-9X40 scope onto. What model Tally 1pc Lightweight mounting system would I need?

Here is my problem, I bought a Leupold "turn in" style mount and rings from a local store. To get my eye relief right I needed extended rings to bring the scope far enough back. Leupold doesnt make a very good mount for the Rem 760, it mounts way too far foward and ultimately looks terrible. Here is what I am talking about.

I got 2 7600's. Both have Leupold once piece quick release bases and low rings.
The eye relief is fine in both my VX1 and Elite 4200.

Those bases and rings are excellent to me at least.

That does look a little off. I'd just use a standard Weaver base with Burris Zee rings...

Here it is previously with an Elite 2-7...

x2! ......... Those Weaver 1pc are perfect for 760s. For some reason the Leupold 1pc are way too far forward and they don't seem to want to correct it. They are too heavy anyways.

best solution is to get rid of the semi automatic :)
Who got semi-auto?? .... all I see is pumps and bolts in this thread.

Hey Bartell, if you built a custom 7600 with a good stainless 260Rem bbl with a McMillan bowling ball stock and Talley mounts, tweeked trigger and a fixed 6 Leupold w/turrets, would it be cool enough for you? ;)

Too far forward. Either you guys got sunken eyes or I got poppie eyes.

Guess they don't call me Marti fieldman for nothing. :D:D
