Which SKS to sporterize

So I currently have a Russian in my safe, and was looking to pick up another SKS at some point to chop the barrell down and put a rail on it.

My question is, Russian or Chinese?

Russians are a little bit more expensive but from what I hear chinese are chrome lined barrels?
 
The whole Front site/bayo lug comes off, but it can be a #####. I had one removed, shorten {18.6} then re-installed. Make sure to keep 1,2 3 + Rifle Original..& one' {beater} to play around with is ok. ;)
 
Don't kill an orginal one. Go wreak one that has already been ruined. Cabela's sells the tapco stock one go mess with one of those
 
Why would you want to ruin a good rifle ? if you want another one then just buy another one and shoot it . if you want to put a scope on one then be my guest . or take the bayonet off .but to tell you the truth I cringe when I see how some people have ruined a nice rifle. it is your choice though . it's your money so it's your choice . get either a beat up Chinese one or a badly refurbed Russian one and go to town . not a mint one please. the Yugo's are nice also .
 
MUHAHAHAaaa my "bubba'ed SKS was a numbers matching Russian in very good condition. Now shes been dremeled, welded, dissected and fitted with polymer components and other heavy accessories. I also have another numbers matching Russian SKS in absolutely MINT condition collecting dust in the safe. Just waiting to become the next host for bubbas work when the first SKS wears out. I have a mint condition Chinese one as well.....
fortunately for her, i prefer Russian girls so i just make her stand and watch lol

I hope you purists loose sleep over the thought of this!

I like my 49 with a cross bayo and 90 degree gas port and my 51 with blade bayo and 45 degree port. Soviets have made only so much of them. And the Chinese don't make that style. So what ever you do with your SKS I don't care.
