Which slugs for 3 gun / Stoeger M3K?

I know very little about slugs used in 3 gun - which are accurate and run reliably. I have a Stoeger M3K and wanted to know if some would work better for that particlar shotgun. What experience have you had shooting slugs in competition and which do you recommend? Thanks.

2 3/4" slugs, whichever our gun fires accurately. My gun like remmington sluggers and they're pretty cheap.

Anything larger and you will not enjoy high-round count stages.

Make sure whatever you choose reliably cycles the M3K. "Low Recoil" slugs may not do the trick.

I am looking for stores in Calgary to try a few brands. I also read that I need to use the Cylinder choke - didn't know that I couldn't use the more closed chokes.

Should be able to shoot slugs up to modified and maybe even improved modified in most modern shotguns.

S&B special sport slug. Same as everyone else has recommended. Because they are lower power than a hunting slug they drop a fair bit beyond 50 yards so make sure you learn what your hold over is.

Watched a few people at an IPSC match shoot full power hunting slugs on an el prez type stage. Shoot 6, reload, shoot 6 more. Looked a bit uncomfortable for them. Lesson learned.

I use my modified choke pretty much exclusively with my M3K with no issues...and I've not had any cycling problems with low recoil slugs so far either.

A cylinder choke is recommended for shooting rifled slugs in a smooth-bore barrel. Sabot slugs should only be shot through our fully-rifled slug barrels.


It is not safe to shoot slugs through chokes tighter than those listed here.

Liability prevention.

I've seen slugs shot through full and even turkey chokes. I regularly shoot slugs through a mod choke at matches.
