Which Stag AR-15?

I've been here on CGN for 5 years or so, and I can only remember one guy complaining about a Stag - and then it was the magazine that he had an issue with. Given the climate here, that's a miracle. I don't think you can go wrong.

So Christmas is approaching, and I'm ready to order.

I'm stuck now, between the 2R and the 2T-R. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the railed hand guard. Am I missing something, or can I always purchase a railed hand guard later on?

I just picked up my R8 a couple of weeks ago. I have yet to shoot it, but first impressions are awesome. Fit and finish is top notch, and fair price. The supplied case is a little on the flimsy side, but it does do the job. I have no interest of scoping this rifle as I prefer iron sights (Diamond Head) and a piston run operation (when applicable) I picked up 1000 rds of Federal .223, and I can't wait to try it out.

I sent a email to AE tonight, but if no one minds if I ask here: I want to run LAR mags. Are there any particular LAR mags that run better in the Stag AR's than others? Can OEM Stag 5/10 - 5/20 - 5/30 mags be bought in Canada?

I bought LAR-15 mags from Questar and SFRC both of whom support this forum. Mine are all RRA units. I got the couplers from SFRC as I recall as I wanted the metal ones. I can't for the life of me understand wanting a 30 round mag pinned to five. Some shooters couple two pairs of pistol mags to get more on the gun capacity. I'm in Texas for the winter and compete here. Anything less that a 30 would make you noncompetitive here. I bought a few Pmags for use here and will leave them for next season when I head home.

So I finally had the time to take my Model 8 to the range sun. Approx 250 of Federal (if I remember correctly) .223 Stock 5/30 mag loaded and shot fine. Able to load on a closed bolt no issues, with no FTF/FTE issues. 2 LAR (grey) mags made in CT were terrible. VERY hard to insert on a closed bolt and enough FTF's to start pissing me off. Tried 10, 9, and 8 rounds to relieve some pressure without much luck. Stag should make their own LAR mags and I would buy them without hesitation. These LAR mags are only worth a 3/10.

The rifle itself was awesome! No issues with sighting as target location was quick and easy. Clean up after was a snap without any problems. Overall 9/10

How much fun can you have with a Stag 3 ??
