I starting a new M14 shorty build. I already have the M305 and a shorty barrel along with a few other bits I need.

I'm trying to decide on a stock...

Options I'm considering at this time ( in no particular order) are:

1) USGI wood
2) USGI glass
3) VLTOR Chopmod
4) Marstar AKM

I'm also probably overlooking some good options, but I don't think I need to shell out for a Sage or Troy to end up with a decent shorty.

The gun has a (plastic?) Chinese black stock on it now. It might be fine for a temporary solution, but...

what you need is one of my new stocks hehehe, composite, full bottom rail, any AR buttstock fits, and A2 style grips fit. Lot's of pics of the M14S-CQB floating around and the new stock is modelled after it. The new stocks will be availlable to order in the beginning of June and designed to be a drop in fit, bedding optional.

similar to this, shown with utg tri rail and standard ar furniture

I'm a big fan of the USGI fiberglass stocks. The EBR stocks are really cool, but IMO they add too much weight and are hella expensive. If price is a concern or you want to be carrying the shorty around (plinking in the bush/hunting) I'd go with the USGI glass stock.

@M14doctor: Will the new stocks' bottom rails be parallel to the axis of the bore, or canted lie in your pic?

Ne manufacture, or built off existing USGI stocks?

What will the approximate price be?

I have a vltor and a chassis. The vltor I like more It's lighter and a little more comfortable, but the chassis seem to be a little stronger and has such a cool factor

my stock will be stronger and lighter than the Vltor, we have already shot utube video as evidence of this, with a fellow cgn'er behind the camera, but i withdrew the video as it was way too dark
the new stocks are new manufacture, hand layed, composite/fiberglass, these are not plastic not injected resin such as used for ATI/Tapco and the new polytech stocks, not mass manufactured and not machine made. Each one is made by human hands, in Canada from start to finish ;)
inletting , receiver bedding and trigger bearing surfaces are identical to the usgi spec.
on the new stock.... the rail does indeed run parrallel to the bore ;)

pricing has been hinted at before, but i am hoping to provide you all with a complete stock set, commercial 6 position buttstock and hogue A2 grip for competively less than an american made Vltor. Stay tuned as June is coming fast :D

June?

M14 doctor, I'm really curious to see such a good stock!

Will there be a solid version like your old M14SE2? It would seems perfect for a light scoped M14.

Color option?

Do you have a specific thread where we can follow your stocks?

i have not released much info on the new stocks but will be doing so in a few weeks.
there are at least 3 new stocks coming from my shop. First will be the ar furniture compatable version. I do intend to make the M14SE2 style availlable as well but the second stock I am working on is my hunter/sniper.... also known as the m14SA2
I'll gather some pics and post them up here as there seems to be many folks who have not seen these versions. I'll be back online later and will post the pics.

I'm looking forward to more info on these....maybe I should shorty my m14? Probably would look alot better with these stocks.

:agree: M14Doctor stock is the best way to go for a shorty build. I just wish he would show some newer stock pic's :p

LOL
unfortunately i don't have pics to post just yet of the new manufacture version of the M14S-CQB.but here are the pics that have been posted of the usgi stock mod version.... of which there are MANY in circulation. I've been at the custom m14 stock thing for over 3 years now.... and longer if i count those i've made for myself and friends.
M14S-CQB , the new stock will be very close in appearance
