Sorry ahead of time, as I am sure this has been asked a lot. I did some searches but I'm having trouble figuring out what tactical/combat style pump shotgun I should buy.

I have found some information on American websites and from American youtube videos but not all the exact models they mention seem to be available here in Canada.

A couple I have been looking at are the Remington 870 Express Tactical 12 Gauge, the Mossberg 590 SPX Tactical , and the Mossberg 500 SPX 6 Shot 12.

It would be appreciated if you could mention any good websites to buy them from as well.

Thanks

Wolverine Supplies (top of the page) for a Remington 870 Police. This is a more expensive model than the express however. Also you're looking at probably the most options for a platform when it comes to accessories.

X2 on the 870 Police: the 870 Tactical is just a bottom of the line 870 Express with added bling.
ive gotten some good deals and great service from P&D Enterprises (banner on top of the page), but i havent looked at their prices on the 870P.

Sounds good, what are the main differences between the express and the police model?

Okay, I gotchya, so the express is the low end model?

yeah. the main difference is just fiit & finish. also, an Express wont be as smooth as a Wingmaster or Police out of the box, but itll break in eventually. they usually have slightly rougher machining, and a cheap matte blued finish that rusts easier.

i have no problems with the Express, and own a couple myself. if youre on a budget or just need a tool to do a job, then by all means get one. itll never be an heirloom piece but itll perform the same base function as any of the higher priced models. the Tactical, on the other hand, is a marketing scheme by Remington to foist Express quality on customers at 870P prices.
the 870P is made in a totally separate area of the plant to much higher quality standards. aside from the fit & finish, there are differences like an all metal triggergroup (vs plastic), some machined parts instead of powdered metal, heavier springs, and (supposedly) hand-selected parts.
if youre going to fork over the dough for a Tactical: a blinged out overpriced Express with the word Tactical stamped on it, then you may as well spend a bit more and get a Police.

That all makes sense to me, and I am definitely willing to spend the extra cash. Money isn't really an issue when it comes to my decision.

I just want to get a nice good quality pump and by the sounds of it the express is not at all what I'm looking for.

Is that picture your gun? If so, where did you get it? I look on wolverine and found this one http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/default.asp?Pg=8&do=3&mcid=1&scid=15&pid=1399 but I haven't seen the police magnum for sale anywhere.

Thanks for all the information.

I believe #### Proenneke's shotgun from Page 84 of the Tactical Shotgun Thread is also an 870 Police with some modifications from Vang Comp. One of my favorites in that 800+ post thread. Simply beautiful. It just needs a sling and sling adapter. I wouldn't touch it otherwise.

yes thats my 870P - with a 12.5" Dlask barrel, Hogue short LOP stock and MI sling plates.

not too long ago (month perhaps), in a similar discussion someone mentioned getting an excellent deal on an 870P. i think it was lil_juiced_coupe or however you spell his nickname.
IIRC it was one of the retailers out west, and it was only a bit more than what most people are spending on an 870 Tactical.

Buying an old 870 Wingmaster and modifying it to your requirements/preferences is another option.

Thanks Dsiwy, I actually have already purchased the 14" Benelli Supernova Tactical. It is great and I am very happy with my choice.
