Which Timer?

I know there is a few threads on which timer to buy and yes, I have read them all. They touch on my questions but no direct answers that I could find.

I am starting rimfire rifle Steel Challenge matches in my backyard and I need a new timer. My old PACT (late 80's model) with the sensor turned all the way up will just barely pick up shots from our shorty barreled guns with multi hole comps on them even when the timer is held near the muzzle. It won't pick up all shots from 16-18" barrels using Mini-Mags unless the timer is held in front of the muzzle and not at all using any SV ammo, not too safe IMO.
What I would like is a timer I can practice and run matches with. Something I can wear on my belt and have it still pick up the shots accurately when practicing. Next best would be having it on small table beside me but I don't really want it there if it can be avoided. I just think it would be hard to get back in the "ready" position after pushing the start button with the timer on the table but maybe the new timers have variable start delays with longer delayed start times than my old PACT (0-4 seconds). I'm not really interested in the watch style one as I don't think running a match using it would be all that great and as I said I want the timer for both practice and matches.

Is there a timer out there that will for sure pick up .22 rimfire rifles, fired outdoors in the open, when worn on your belt?

Is there anyone interested in shooting some Steel Challenge stages that has a newer timer and lives in the Kelowna area so we can try it out and maybe get a new shooter also? If so PM me.

I see that you are not very interested in the watch style timers, but I thought I would mention that for the past year I have been using the ShotMaxx both indoors and outdoors, practicing by myself and using it to time others, and think its pretty awesome. It works extremely well for practicing on your own, as you just click the button on your wrist and put your arms in whatever starting position you want. It looks a little strange for running others through in stages, but it does work well.

I find the sensor works quite well while shooting indoors, with others shooting around me too. I have not tested it firing .22lr outdoors, but I see no reason that it wouldn't pick it up without issue (granted you set everything up properly).

Thanks for the answer. I bought an RUReady and I am amazed at how well it picks up the .22's outdoors. It is so sensitive that it even picks up some of the close up plates being hit and I haven't turned up the sensitivity at all. I might even turn it down a bit.

I kind of like the idea of the watch style ones but I wanted the timer for use with others as much as for solitary shooting and the standard style one just made more sense.

I have seen an "R U ready" timer not pick up a 22 shot. My CED 7000 timer has adjustable sensitivity, and has never let me down.

I have absolutely no trouble picking up .22 shots with my RU Ready, even with it on my waist. On close stages like Pendulum it even picks up some plate hits and I don't even have a comp on the new non-threaded Tac-Sol barrel. I did make a new side vent comp for the now unused lightened Dlask barrel, maybe I'll have to thread the Tac-Sol:)

I'd wait a bit for either the Shotmaxx 2 or the new timer that DAA is coming out with (handheld and quite awesome in concept and features)

Humm that shotmaxx 2 looks good. I like that its not a huge box (which with today's tech, I don't know why they still make them huge). Any idea of when it's coming our way?
