Your list starts out well, then gets all messed up.....

Of the choices listed I'd go-

1) Ruger M77MII
2) Remington 700
3) Howa

Have fun shopping.:)

At present i have a win classic, ruger m11, 700 rem, p/h , cz, all required trigger work except my tikka. However i like them all. Look for the one you think you like the best now, im sure you will buy more later.

i have a tikka t3 in the 22-250.i put my target scope on it . sure is fun to shoot .for the money you cant go wrong .

Cant go wrong with the Tikka, have a few and love them. New 700's are nowhere near the quality of the tikka's imo, but thats why there is a small price difference.

I too think you should have a peek at savage varmint line - accurate and nice trigger.

That said - if you want to take one out of the box and have it shoot accurately, with the option of adjusting the trigger to a nice, human level, go TIKKA, if you want to fuss with it, mess with it, #### with it and eventually get one shooting after new stock and trigger minimum - go Remington, there's tonnes of parts to accessorize remington because remington NEEDS to have tonnes of parts put on them to SHOOT well. They've really let their quality control slide as of late....not impressed much by Remington anymore.

well you picked a good caliber 22-250, I have a savage in that caliber for varmint but before I bought it I was using a tikka in 25-06, another nice rifle. I would recomend either, both shoot very well. I've had problems with my ruger m77, but I suspect bedding and free floating the barrel will fix the problem.

so from your original list I would have to pick the tikka in 22-250

Go Savage or Tikka, if you get a Rem 700 be ready to accessorize or get a 700 not an SPS. Then send it to you smith and have the Chamber opened up an an Ackley Improved if you handload. Personally, I HATE trimming brass, plus it's faster and more accurate too...... Just my opinion.

I have 5 Savage rifles (4-.223 rem / 1-.308) we coach with, they're very sturdy, dependable and accuracte rifles and not too expensive.
Two summers ago I had a RUGER MK II in .220 Swift, it had been bedded and had a Douglas barrell, it shot absolutely fantastic, it would have been perfect for varmints.
1/4 min. groups all day.(wish I had of kept it)

One of the guys that came to an Intro course recently had bough a Remington SPS in 300 WSM, brought it in to the class to show it to me and ask my opinion.
Now i've had a few remingtons, never had any problems, they were decent and real easy to upgrade, my Son still shoots one, an XR 100 that's a tack driver.
I looked at buddy's gun (indoors) it was raining on and off that day and told him what he'd need to make it a 1000 yd gun and that since he hadn't sighted it in yet that it was best he not use it today , I'd get him out to a private range (not Military) and help him out next week. He put it back in his car (in a case).
This is a brand new Remington from Bass Pro in Woodbridge, he took it home and put it down stairs over night. He got a surprise the next morning when he opened his case.

I have pics, this is AFTER we,ve tried cleaning it up with cleaners/ oils and rags, no scrubbing yet.

(this is an NEW UNFIRED rifle)
We wiped off alot of the mess (rust)

Do you still want a new Remington on your list ?

It looks as if the barrel/receiver, was painted and not primed, instead of blued. I guess I will hang onto my old 700 mtn rifle. It has been out in the rain many times here in BC, but still looks 99% new
