I am adding to my collection and looking for a reliable .223. I have narrowed it down to 3 that interest me. If you have experience with one, two or all three please let me know which one you would get.

Tavor X95
Famae SG540-1M
CZ Bren 2

I know that the X95 is the different one in the bunch but I am looking for reliable, fun and easy to maintain rifle so I am considering it because of what I have read. I was intrigued by the SG540-1M because I thought it would also be a bit of a more of a rare gun but it appears that multiple importers will have this in inventory so the rare factor might not be as accurate as I was thinking. Anyhow I don't post much so please don't be annoyed by another post asking what to buy ;)

Since I own all 3 I would lean towards the Bren.

Bullpups have never done it for me although the Tavor is a nice shooter. The Famae is good but not as good as the Swiss varieties plus they tend to be a bit on the heavier side.

If you like bullpup ergonomics, then go X95 - they're reliable, available and affordable. I, personally, have realized over the years that I much prefer 'standard' layout over bullpup, despite the advantages of bullpup designs... as such, I prefer the Bren, and it would be my choice. The older version of the Famae 540 was actually pretty awesome too, though - the new one will probably be decent as well.

I have owned all 3 at one point or another. Of the three I would prefer the Bren 2, assuming that I could obtain one immediately. Since that is impossible given that current Restricted offerings are tied up by the overwhelmed transfer system, I would look to my 2nd choice and go with the "bird in the hand" by picking up the readily-available and Non-Restricted Tavor X95. That said, if one were available on the EE or elsewhere and if I preferred a conventional rifle layout to the Tavor's Bullpup configuration, then I would grab an SG-540 over the Tavor X95. The latter two are essentially equal in my view, differing mostly in terms of their layout.

Apply the process of elimination based on firearm availability and your personal preferences and you will soon determine your best choice....
