With all the hoopla with these fine damn rifles Im sure there may be trading going to take place, I know myself, I would like to have the years from 49 to 56. Maybe an organized registry of years to help us to achieve our goal (the ones that are collecting them, I myself need 49,50,51,52,53 Ive got several 54 and one 55 Im trying to have a complete set of Un-issued TULAS and a set of refurbs

I wish I had the money to spend. Bought another one today, this one is for the g/f when she gets her PAL I'm giving it to her.

Both the other one I had and this one I got today are 1954.

my guess is the 54 tula would be the most common.

also i will assume the poll 56 is actually a 1955/56 , no factory marking on top cover.

Maybe Curtton can chime in on this. Iam having the same problem.

A new numbering system using a single letter suffix (but retaining the two letter prefixes) was instituted during at some point during the 55/56 timeframe. The key may be there. I have read that the highest suffix observed is K but who really knows?

Is there any way to distinguish between a '55 and a '56? Is it possible to tell from the serial #'s ?

there are top cover that has the 1955 stamp so those would go to poll 1955 and no date on top cover with a star on left side of receiver would go to poll 1956 which is actually 1955/56 . as eos mentioned sometime in late 1955 they switched to a new system.

Don't forget the top cover star, but no date. It was the begining of the no date rifles. Before the letter series came along. It would be nice to know also where in the numbering/year system the original laminates started too. Was it 1955 or 1956?

What years of manufacture have the chromed barrels? I heard that the rifles began to have chrome barrels in 1951. I am not positive about this. Could someone in the know chime in? Thanks
