While hunting... Ever come close to dying???

Ah but in reference to the second point Jay. Could you have died in any funner way with your cloths on ... lol If I recall you joined me in singing the Edmund Fitzgerald. Nice song to die to. Cant belive to this day we made it.

Yah we have one of those lodge cabins and ones I came back and there was those two bears eating stuff out of our cooler anyway we did'nt have a gun so we hide our truck for half an hour.
The bad thing is the guns were inside.

heh heh!!!

Around here, we would have started chucking rocks at the bears, and even gone so far as to boothem in the ass!:p

I booted a small bear in the ass a couple of weeks ago, that was rooting about outside my shop. I heard some noise, (it was dark) and I walked out to see wha I thought was the neighbors dog..I boted it in the butt, an then realized it ws a 2-3 year old bear!:D

. I was recalling this event with my Father on his death bed this time last year, he smiled and asked if I thought he could have dropped the chargng bear and I said of course which is when he related to me that his gun wasn't loaded!

(First, sorry abotu your loss)

Second, hahah..Your dad was a smart man!

As I am sure you know now, had you run that bear may have had a pedatory instinct triggered, and he would have given chase. Your dad was smart enough to hold his ground, just like any other dominant bear would do, and it paid off....;)

Reminds me of a bear hunt that I went on. My usual budies were busy, so I took a kid form work (strong guy, about 22, and great sense of humour) We kiled a bear, and it took us forever to drag it back (3 hours in pitch dark, pissing rain and LOTS of other bears in the area)

he kept worrying that another bear was going to smell the blood and get us (like a shark feeding frenzy)

I told him not to worry, I had a rifle! He calmed down...

It wasnt' until 3 weeks later than t I broke the news to him: I had slid down a bank when recovering the bear, and there was an inch of mud in the muzzle! No way was I going to shoot!:D

Thank-you Gate, memories of time spent in the outdoors with my Father are the most special.

I'm "almost" to embarrassed to say this... But on Saturday I went duck hunting again on the St.John river and got friggen hypothermia!!! I spent the next 36 to 48 hours trying to regulate my body temp which kept going from 35.1 to 39 degrees!!! All the while, the wife was threatening me with the emergency room at the hospital and I had a SPLITTING headache and ached all over...

In 48 hours I only ate 2 slices of bread with Nutella and a jug of orange juice!!! Man, this duck hunting is gonna be the end of me... Funny thing is, I was dressed warm and didn't feel that bad, at least not till I got home that is...

Friggen Fracken Ducks!!!

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Lazy Ike, I really enjoyed your post about your dad, sorry for your loss!
