Afternoon,

I`m thinking about changing up, adding some gear.

I have heard great things about Sitka, but it's a few hours drive just to look at some or try it on. Our local TSC and Canadian tires have huge selections with some bibs pricing out to the $400 range. For that price range I would think it would be good quality but I'm not sure.

So I guess what I'm asking, I'll be tree stand hunting from now (or soon) till the end of the year. I'm 5"6", 170 lbs and tend to get cold sitting around.

So any thoughts, suggestions on what I should be looking towards and any good specials you've saw from the sponsors here? Price is important but I am more looking for quality gear that will last and perform.

Sitka is good quality, but in order for it to be warm, you need to order the whole layering system. In other words, you can't just buy a jacket and expect to be warm, as with other camo clothing. I think it's great for active hunting, not so much for treestands. I also found I had to order one size larger than with other hunting clothing. It's more of an athletic fit, but you can tell they put a lot of thought into where the arm/knee bend is, etc.
Cabela's clothing is also very good, especially their higher priced stuff like the MT050 whitetail line, but that may be a bit warm for S. Ontario.

I appreciate the response. I do some heavy layering now but get so "bulked up" that it can be awkward with a bow. In the late winter I use surplus heavy insulated bibs and once I get a few layers on my upper I feel like the Pillsbury dough boy!

I will look at the MT050 line. I would rather be a bit warm than cool. I work way to many hours inside and have a hard time adjusting to a day outside, whether it's summer or winter. After a few days off outside I'm good, but 6-14 days in air conditioning or heat softens me up to the elements.

i was looking to buy some good wool pants for Ottawa area tree stand, same question as you, i sure get cold just sitting in the stand, and i really need to be warm to stop moving around. Nothings inexpensive out there, but i guess you get what you pay for.

Ulfrotte Swedish wool underwear

Available at Angie's Outdoor store in Barrie _ check their website I think they will ship.
Get the heavy weight set. Works great

You might consider Bass Pro and their line of Redhead outerwear. I have a set of blaze orange jacket and bibs and really like them, they've held up great
over the last 4 years and are still waterproof.

Depending upon how far you walk, what you carry, I have found that walking almost a mile wearing all that crap, carrying a crossbow, plus gear makes me sweat in the stand, then I get too cold. Except for the harshest days, I now drape my parka over my crossbow and do the walk in with bibs and a sweater or hoodie. I sit in the stand until I cool down, then put on the heavy layer as needed.

If I get a sweat it's even worse. I leave lots of time, walk slow or strip before hand to make sure I don't.

I ended up going to Cabelas looking at the MT050 line of clothing tried on everything and noted the sizes and product numbers... End of winter they all ways have a big sale....that is when I bought and saved over $400
