I'm looking to hunt deer in Ontario somewhere around Dryden or Lake Of The Wood. There's so many outfitters thats it tough to see wich one would be OK. I'd like to get feedback from those of you who used one, outfitter name, positive and negative stuff.

Thanks in advance.

With a few exceptions, most hunts are self-guided on Crown land. Some outfitters have access to private land though. I know that many hunters who hunt the Dryden area stay in local motels. When I think about Lake of the Woods, I think Nestor Falls and Sioux Narrows. There are a few guys that are guiding. Almost all of the fishing lodges cater to deer hunters. I can’t vouch for any particular business but do a google search for guides in those areas. Once you found a couple of prospects, ask for references. FYI deer numbers are way down compared to 10-15 years ago. IMO, there are better places to hunt now such as SW Ontario. I’m not saying that NWO isn’t a good place to hunt deer, but you need to compare your expectations to the current situation.

North Bay isn’t exactly the hot spot for deer in Ontario. Unless things have changed drastically in the last 9 years since I lived there.

Most of the site i've check were semi guided as you mentioned. When you say SW Ontario, do you mean near the Manitoba/Minnesota border?

Check out Ontario Monster Whitetail Magazine. Very seldom are there any stories from NW Ontario, most are taken in SW Ontario.

Not NW Ontario, but Rob Argue from Eastern Canadian Outfitters is a solid guy with some great locations in eastern Ontario. Look him up on FB. Sorry if it is too far from from your original destination.

Non-resident hunters require a guide in The Rainy River/Patricia districts. Check out www.oodmag.com,www.ofah.org or www.huntinontario.ca for links to guide/outfitter services.
