Second Model Whitney Navy Revolver, 4th Type.
(The serial number range for the 4th Type is 11000-28000)

The action is very crisp.

Barrel address.

Barrel serial number.

Serial number on the cylinder.

Whitneyville marking on the cylinder.

I bought this packet of .36 caliber cartridges many years ago---never thinking that I would own a Whitney Navy Revolver one day.

Thanks for the positive comments.

An interesting reference in the Whitney Navy Revolver book.

#3110 used by General JEB Stuart, a Virginian who commanded the First Virginia Cavalry early in the war, and later commanded the Confederate Cavalry Corp of the Army of Northern Virginia.

I already had a E. Whitney manufactured Model 1841 Rifle (Mississippi rifle) as well as two martially marked Model 1851 Colt Navies----so I decided it was time for a Whitney Navy.
Ideally I would have preferred not having to purchase it in U.S. dollars---but that is where the Whitney was.

I asked the auctioneer what the serial number was on the Whitney---he said the first three numbers were 308-- out of five numbers.
That makes this Whitney a Second Model, 5th Type.

Before I bought the Whitney shown above I asked for good photos of all the serial numbers including on the underside of the grips.

Location of serial numbers.
