I am looking to have a custom tactical/precision rifle built, just for ringing steel. I thought about going the Cadex route but I still think I would prefer custom . Any advice ? Thanks

All quality smiths local to myself that I would recommend for a precision rifle build. Lots that shoot PRS matches in Canada have their rifles set up by these top 4.

I've got a Curtis Custom Valor that takes shouldered profit barrels and you can quick change the barrel in 1min at the range. Same rifle/chassis/scope/trigger for my 6.5creed, 308, 223 and 6GT PRS matches and also a .22LR conversion for rimfire matches. I've also shot my bear with a short 6.5 barrel and I'm currently taking my 300wsm barrel out looking for game this season. Sure beats having 6 different scopes+chassis and actions...check out EM Precision for sure, it'll be a game changer getting a Curtis Valor from Shane

Hey Firas, have you come up with a method of quickly getting zero after switching? I like the idea and have played with barrel nut style switch ups but having to re-zero and reset zero stops etc. is to much of a pain. Way more money but it’s nice to grab a setup rifle and ammo and go.

There's the option of building a rifle yourself, if you're moderately handy and know what a torque wrench is for and have the time, although I can see the attraction of having someone hand you something ready for the range.

No barrel nuts on these (except the22lr.so I can adjust the headspace to match my lott of ammo) There is a set screw on either side of the action and if you make sure to tighten the same side first each time and in a similar way, then it will be with a .1mil of beforehand.

I'll often rezero the turret whenever I'm changing cartridges in preparation for a match. In the past Id keep my scopes elevation adjustment "bottomed out" and I had my "zero offsets" tracked and I could just dial up for any different barrel. eg. 7.8m up was my 223 zero and 8-8.2 for my 6.5 and 308. I'd still zero my rifle because that's usually part of my range session but I've had no trouble banging steel at 1k with multiple barrels in the same session. The odd barrel has a few tenths R-L windage offsets but it's simple to track as well

6GT for most PRS and 6.5creed for NRL Hunter. I also shoot a heavy 223 for PRS tactical class and then the 300 WSM for for hunting season. I'll throw on my carbon 223 for coyotes in the new year and bounce back and forth with my 308 for practice. Usually a 22LR match in the early season and every few months for some cheaper practice.

It's been a ton of work having this type of setup but I know it doesn't help having 3+ loads developed for each barrel...my ballistic calculators are full of profiles haha

Agreed. I've had a few good chamberings done by EM
