So Epps had and has a deal on Surplus Dutch Military Glock 17 Gen 3’s. $499. Great for lending to Newbies at the range, so I picked one up. Clean and has had very few rounds through it.

Apparently, according to Epps, they all had some type of circular inventory tag on the top of the slide directly in front of the rear sight. The inventory tag has been removed but there is some residual “adhesive?” where the tag had been. It is hard and almost acrylic like in feel. It does not scrape off (carefully) with a razor blade. I would like to remove it if I can but I do not want to damage the slide or remaining finish. Have considered a little heat and/or a little solvent but figured I would put it out here first.

Has anyone who bought one of these been successful in removing the adhesive? I can live with it as is but removing this residue would be preferred.

Here are a couple pics.

Try wetting it with Hoppe's #9 and leaving it sit for awhile. If it softens then keep applying it. No idea if it'll work on what's on your gun but it eats any kind of glue I've encountered.

Have you tried lighter fluid?

In my experience, lighter fluid - combined with a sturdy cotton rag and a little elbow grease - usually makes short work of adhesive residue, and (unlike some products) it seems to be safe for most surfaces.
