I have a CZ 455 Varmint project I am working on. I am looking to make this a unique precission rimfire for 50 and 100 yard. Looking to make it a bench shooter. I have the yo dave trigger kit, which I am about to put in and have ordered a match grade Lilja .900 barrel for it. The hardest part of completing this project is to have a custom stock for it. I am looking for a contact to make me a benchrest styled stock in Walnut or Maple (currently undecided). I may also want to add some wood carving to it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? The only reputable person I have found and that I like their products is www.garycanegunstocks.com. They make a nice product. Looking for something similar in ottawa or even in Canada.

I appologize if this post is in the wrong area. I searched and did not see a similar post.

Thanks

Well,
Some people here may disagree, but I think Maple is a horrible wood for a stock. Especially on a precision rifle.
Not that I dislike maple for all purposes, but it does move quite a lot with seasonal humidity changes and is generally not super stable.
Walnut on the other hand is lighter and much more stable. If you want a bit more heft you could go with cherry, which is also quite stable. Patternmakers use the stuff to make molds for castings. That's very stable.
Even more stable than any solid wood are laminated sections of wood. Not your ordinary plywood, of course. You can buy laminated stock blanks from someone on here I think, or do an internet search.
Of course it's all up to you if you're going custom.
Good Luck,
D
