I have a buddy looking for a smokeless muzzle loader in Canada. I remember about 6 months ago seeing a place on here that sold ready to go barreled action, but I cant seem to find it now....

Can anyone help me out?

It might have been at Londero Sports. They have a used 45 cal built on an Rem XR 100 action.

I remeber seeing bullseye London having them last yr but they haven’t had anything in stock for a while now . I myself am also looking for a smokeless . Keep me posted I’ll do the same

I'm going to be putting in a deposit for a PVA barrel setup with an Arrowhead breach plug and modules.

These are a direct thread on replacement barrel for any of the compatible actions (Bighorn, Defiance, Lone Peak, Impact etc).

Only issue is that they use a barrel with a 5.5'' shank, so either a chassis type or custom inlet stock would be required.

These are able to generate just shy 3000fps with a 300gr. .45 cal bullet using smokeless powder. Going to a fun project.

There's a nice 10ml ii for sale on ####### in moose jaw right now. I already have a custom 10ml ii though. Don't be afraid to look state-side for a custom smokeless. I remember looking at some beautiful 45 cal customs down there.

And watch out for that #######'s shop in Manitoba. It's been a few years and I can't 100% remember his shop's name (don't want to throw out the wrong name) but I just remember it's in Manitoba and he was the Canadian Parker distributor. I tried to buy some Parker bullets from his shop and the whole time he just told me how my ML2 was a POS and useless and couldn't have been used to fill my freezer year after year and I might as well throw it in the trash. I promptly hung up and threw his number in the trash instead and now use Barnes bullets.

Head space set up is still required, that is the beauty of the Savage barrel nut more convenient for the DIY er.

I put together a smokeless .45 rig on a Savage using Cecil's (Precision Rifle Muzzleloading- prbullet.com) conversion. It was easy to do, and shoots great, but Precision Rifle's Savage conversions do not achieve the performance you'll see from a dedicated custom build, as the Variflame breech plug isn't designed to take the same pressures as the Arrowhead system.

How far are you planning on shooting or do you want convenience of not cleaning as often?

I would like to get one of Luke's(Arrowhead) rifles....but $4 K USD!...and that's on a converted Rem 700 action.

If you want to stick with BH209 CVA makes some decent rifles.

I have Accura V2 LR and it groups nicely...one thing I did notice is it was susceptible to p.o.i change with temp swings.

The Accura V2 LR would take deer sized game out to 300 yards....250 yards for Elk or Moose would be easy.

BH 209 is great. You can usually shoot 25-30 rounds before cleaning breech plug and with CVA Nitrided barrels corrosion isn't an issue with BH209.

They also have a Paramount and Paramount pro.

Luke from Arrowhead offers conversions for Paramount and Rem Ultimate Muzzleloader.

I picked up a CVA Accura V2 Plainsman last year because I wanted a 28" barrel to play with. Quite accurate to 200 yds so far, and my plan is to run it out to 300yds this spring. I have a customized NEF that I also play with.

I put him in touch with Arrow Head and he can go from there....

If you're bored and are on Facebook later, look up Bestill Creations. The guy not only competes in muzzle loader shooting, he also builds them. He will mod TC Omega but also build custom smokeless.ones from scratch. If our dollar was better, I'd be getting on of his built...

Contact Ken at Bullseye North in London Ontario, he often times has a build in the works or can source parts for you to do your own build. Last I heard he had a smokeless ML in a Cadex chassis and was working on 500 yards--pretty impressive I thought.

Me, I went with a CVA Acuura MR, shorter and lighter because my hunting property has such thick bush you can't see past 100 yards in most setups anyways. It has turned out to be a very accurate little rifle and is easy to tote around for several days in the bush, it has turned into one of my favourite rifles to hunt with!

I still cannot wrap my head around Arrowheads costs.

He appears to charge around $1500 for the labour to "build".

You can get a Paramount Pro for $1800.

Not sure if it's worth it...IF CVA Paramount Pro will probably shoot 120 grs of BH 209 ?

By far the most economical way of getting a Custom Smokeless muzzleloader is to use a large shank Savage CF action from a donor rifle and get the other components from Luke at Arrowhead Sporting goods. He'll sell you a Brux .45 cal barrel , rear sealing breech plug ( with carbide ventliner) Brass modules for LRMP ers and bolt nose. The DIYer can set headspace with Savages barrel nut system and this can probably be done for around 2K. Also he can provide you with a full forming sizing die to custom fit bullets.
Savage isn't the prettiest rifle but beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, you can dress it up with an upgraded stock and other accessories.

I mention large shank because if you want to utilize heavy loads you need a barrel with a least 1.25 " dia at the breech and at least 5 " long before taper this will do whatever you need doing.

The easiest way is a pr bullet savage center fire conversion. Cecil is arrogant and has a his way is the only way attitude but his set ups do work. I have a 50 I built from his parts and it shoots well. Basically similar too a savage ML2 as far as load data and velocity is concerned. Less that 1” groups at a hundred kills deer out to 200, haven’t pushed mine further. Sabots are the sucky part of any 50/45 set up and are the week point in muzzle loading IMO.

Sabotless smokeless is a whole other ball game. Just this season I got too play with a Remington uml converted too 45 and shoots smokeless. 200gr ftx at 2900fps is amazing! 3” high at 100 dead on at 200 and at 225-250 the wheels fall off.... this is a sensible load recoil wise with no muzzle brake.

When you start getting into the 250-300gr bullet range recoil becomes WICKED if your going too load them in the 2700-2900 range.

The problem arises with bullets we can get on our side of the dotted line..... we can order muzzleloader parts out of the states but not bullets as far as I know. Even if a guy could get the bullets after exchange duty taxes shipping ect. You would be 5 dollars or so a pop.

So option A is drive the absolute snot out of a hornady 250ftx with a bc of .210 or a Barnes tmz 290 with a bc of .223 and deal with the recoil that’ll blow the hat right off your head and energy runs out at 400 yards but between 300-400 yards were into the ball park of 1-2 inches of bullet drop every 10 yards or so.

Option B is peddle back too the realm of sanity as far as recoil goes and run the same bullets around 2500 and again with energy numbers and reasonable bullet drop your basically into a 250yard hunting rifle.

That last 50 yards between 200 and 250 cost a guy a real pretty penny.

Pay too play but there is no free lunch like the you tube videos make it out too be.

You can certainly order ML bullets out of USA...I ordered Parker Ballistic Extremes but they are $$$$$.

Bullets are not restricted in any way it's just some suppliers don't like filling out customs forms?

I stand corrected. Good bullets changes everything!

Goes without saying though much more then 200 yards and your going too pay dearly for your returns.
