Hi all, I’ve just received a Bar-Sto barrel for a Sig P226 which is bright stainless. Does anyone know any vendor who can apply a coating to make blue or black? Thanks! Bill

Cerakote is the easy way. Other methods - like salt bath nitriding involve heat, which may affect the metal, not saying that it will, just that it has to be done correctly to avoid the issue. Might want to check with S&J Hardware, they do a lot of refinishing.

Black Box Custom is another (Cerakote) option. Their rates are on their website. <http://www.blackboxcustoms.com/services#cerakote-1>

I would nitrate, it will be more durable. That's the original Sig finish anyway, doesn't add any material to the barrel, it's a surface treatment.

H&M Blacknitride+™ process, or Ferritic Nitrocarburizing is used on KKM barrels and others, but is only available in the US. Not sure if anyone here is doing it in Canada.

I think there was a vendor on CGN a while ago that offered Diamond-like carbon (DLC) treatment but not sure if they did it themselves or shopped it out.

I checked out Cerakote but I think it will wear out on contact points fairly quickly.

I believe Tac Ord offers DLC (they do shotgun bolts) either way they certainly know finishing.
