Who does gun rebluing?

Who does a decent job of gun rebluing in Canada generally and BC in particular. I have a couple of shotguns that I would like to bring back to their former glory.

Gunnar at ArmCo farms his re-bluing requests out to someone in Prince George. Had a couple of S&W revolvers done. They came back looking factory fresh. I was very pleased with the results. Am contemplating having my Citori done, she has served me well and deserves it.

There are two basic types of blueing, chemical blueing which is commonly used by factories on new firearms and by most gunsmiths on most firearms, and rust blueing which gives a much different result, takes much longer with far more labour (ie more expensive) and MUST be used for high quality double barrelled shotguns with the barrels joined by soft solder as chemical blueing will eat the solder and can cause the barrels to fall apart. If your gun is a double, even of fairly modern manufacture, you need to determine for sure how the barrels are joined, any competent gunsmith can make this call with the gun in hand. If you are going with rust blue it will cost you $400 and up, the actual process takes weeks and there are limited smiths in Canada who do this work.

I sent out about 5 different emails to gunshops offering bluing for a price on just a barrel off a 410, only one got back to me and said he'd have to look into it.

WTF?

David Jennings in Pritchard had some tanks he used for blueing.
Not sure if he still offers this up or not.
Heck, he has a web page that might have some info on his gunsmithing.

Ear yah go...………..

I tried to get Rusty Wood to do my 1912 mfg winchester 1894. Was suggested I call back another time. He seemed content with the current work load. Let us know if you succeed.

They realistically have to do them in batches, at least that was my finding from a few years back. I had a cooey done at general gun in Windsor, and they had to wait till they had enough to make it worthwhile. I think it was a month or two before I heard back to send it away, but they did a fantastic job on it.

You live in telkwa and haven’t tried Smithers gunworks? Dirk did a pretty good job on my old .22 Winchester. I’ve dealt with rusty wood buying supplies they have good customer service. Armco does good work but has horrible customer service... my $0.02

I got some hot blue done through Rusty Wood Trading a while back. So try there since you're already in BC. Came back really nicely done.

Here's a nice link on how to speed up the rust bluing and do it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHyoUF50rF0

Jason at Gunco in Ottawa did a nice job for me. Also fixed some ugly looking metal on a couple of firearms for my hunting partner. Turned out quite nice. I realize he's not in BC but its an option.
