Anyone know where to find a shop that will piece together a nice rifle package? I was looking at picking up a 223 tactical and dropping it in an AICS but would like some prices on some other possible setups.

Although I like the AICS I would also look at an A-5 with a savage or remington, etc. depending on price.

So anyone know someone who does this?

Also, is the AICS only available through Wolverine?

Yes, ATR (Alberta Tactical... Rick is a great guy to deal with) or V-Bull Precision.... Ed (V-Bull) makes a damned fine bottom metal system and his guns are assembled by precision gunsmith guru Mick McPhee.

If you have some spare $$$...check these makers:

1. Underground Skunkworks

2. GAP- G.A. Precision

Edited to add: 3. SAC- Short Action Customs

I only wish I had the bucks...In the meantime, I just keep going back to look at their beautiful work.

ALL US made, so good luck getting them into Canada without some aggravation and what if you need any warranty work?
GA and Skunk both make good guns, but certainly NO better than many that are made in Canada where should you need support you can actually get it.

There are lots of Canadian based smith's who can make you a world class custom rig...for the most parts they don't have big websites and publicity so you have to dig around. Ask guys at your range, read up on this website and look at some of the links....they're out there.

Agreed...I'm not knocking Canadian smiths. As a matter of fact, I have had work done by both Canadian and US based gunsmiths. I never insinuated that US smiths are better than Canadian. The question by the OP was, "who builds rifle packages?"

I have had work done by 2 of the three companies mentioned and their customer service, delivery times and product have been nothing short of outstanding.

Not looking to start anything here but you can get US made with US parts or get Canadian made with US parts. For now. I know there are some Canadian made parts in the works or already available and some prices are OK but not all. Contact a few Canadian builders and have a look at their work and prices. The largest price tag doesn't mean the best work or parts. If you look at the US side ask them what your options are for warranty. There could be someone here that can help out if there is an issue so it doesn't have to go back to the US side. We need to stop the US, Canada border fear tactics. With the right planning and permits anything can be done.
This is just my opinion of course. Everyone will have their own and they won't seemingly agree most times.

There are a number of Cdn. smiths that already have set up the paperwork, got the permits etc. to gain access to many of the US parts and/or have relationships with distributors or the manufacturers to get the parts you might need. The issue as I see it is that once the gun is complete if there is warranty or mods required, the shipment of the completed firearm across the border is where things can take time.

I think most of us would agree that CBSA or US Customs and AFT are not always the most efficient people when you are working to a dealine for a competition or hunting trip.

PS. There are many Cdn. part suppliers, such as those for barrels and stocks, that are as good if not better then the US.

I have a rifle built by ATRS, it's a solid rifle and I would recommend them to anyone. The GAP rifles are nice, but they are no better than what you can get up here, and you have no permits to worry about. If you are willing to go through the trouble there are a pile of tactical shops in the states.

If you can find a Cdn smith with long range or tactical exp. then you will be cooking. Keith Cunningham at Milcun, Casey Brouwer at Tactical Ordnance in Ontario come to mind. I have guns built by both. There are others.

Alberta Tactical and Mystic Precision, PRW in the west, and there are others in the east such as ATI. I am sure there are others.

So with a combination of Canadian parts, and Cdn. smiths to put the parts together no one has to go south of the border.
