So who got slots? Montana or Oklahoma?
Also got one from A8 for the Open in Montana. Can't make it to Tulsa this year because I'll be leaving for the European Championships about the same time the Limited is on. Hopefully they'll change the date. I'd love to shoot the Limited again! You going Mobile?

Got mine for the open yesterday. Come hell or hi water I am going this year.

I am thinking about bring a couple rifles to do some varmint hunting.

How do you earn a slot?
Well, I think it's a pretty fluid type of thing. I think it goes something like this:
If you win your category(senior, lady, junior, etc...) OR, sometimes if you win your class at an area match or the previous nationals, you go on a list. The list is made up of finishing order and importance. On the top would be maybe the top 3 in each division, then the category winners, maybe the class winners at the bottom. I think all this is also subject to the Area and sectional directors liking you. I think they also have discretion. The list gets sent to USPSA office, and they contact the people on the list for slots. As they go down the list, if people refuse a slot or get one from somewhere else, they get further down. I have won my class at an area match every year, and only occasionally got a slot. So, that's my guess. Maybe someone else really knows how it's supposed to go. :runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

it says in the rules :
If a division within an area championship has at least 100 competitors,
that division will receive slots for:
• First and second overall
• First and second within class (M-D)
• First and second woman
• Top junior
• Top senior
• Top super senior
If there were fewer than 100, but at least 50 in the division, the area
would award:
• First and second overall
• First in class as described above
• Top woman
• Top junior
• Top senior
• Top super senior.
If the division had fewer than 50 competitors only the high overall
finisher would receive a slot. In all divisions GM’s compete for overall only and
unclassified (U) is not considered a class.

2006 Area 7 limited division had 89 so I would have (should have) been offered a slot... or is it because I'm Canadian??

yeah I saw that was just inputing wot it said cause you asked if anyone else knew how it went....

but I guess like you said if the SD likes me or not... since I don't really socialize that much with the Exec's I guess they wouldn't know me from Adam. oh well the waiting list here I come.....

MAxpig, you're not a member of Area 7 so you cannot earn a slot from the area 7 match, only area 7 members can get a slot from the match, not sure if that goes for an overall win also. Since we're not a member of any area we get screwed in that aspect but as a a foreign member we can earn a slot through state matches or "Other Tournaments" as well as the Nats.
I've been complaingin to the head office about this for years, but they don't want to do anything about it. This years slot is a result of the Targeting Ed match from last year, I got into last years match from the Ohio championship, both years I've one my class at an area match but get passed over for not being a member of that area. It would be nice if USPSA would let us consider the Area we shoot in the most as our home area. I think if you join an affiliated club you become a member of the area the club is in, not 100% on that but I'll ask when I call tomorrow.
I can't see the SC's personal opinion of a shooter coming into play due to the fact that certain un-desireables still end up at the match. Being in souther Ontario is a big plus since we can hit the Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, in a short drive and Kentucy, Illinois and pennsilvania in a few more hours. This years Targeting Ed match over in a Livingston will count towards geting a slot for next year. So it doesn't matter how much you socialize, you just need to shoot the right matches. If that doesn't pan out then you need to work on your scrounging.

Well, how else do you explain the fact that I win my class in almost every area match I enter, but I've only got a slot from A6 in 2004, and now A8 for this year. I've won a slot from Tonawanda, which is part of the eastern lakes section of A7. I shoot A7, A8 and used to shoot A6 and A5, as well as A2 every year. I can't explain it, other than discretion. I won my class at the Nationals in Tulsa last year, but did not get a slot from that either this year.
I don't know how it works!!!!!!!!!

That's how Kim 'splained it to me. When I called to ask why I didn't get a slot for winning my class at area 6 but mobile got one from another area match she said that there were a few people who got slots by accident. The person incharge of checking what area shooters are from missed a few names. Maybe ya gots yerself a horse shoe up yer arse? Only the top 16 get slots from the nats, here's the actual slot policy

Yeah, I ran home to my parents to see if I had received a slot for winning my Class at Area 1. (I don't get any shooting stuff sent to my house, I live in a crappy neighborhood. :p) No slot.

I am Canadian. So that is not it. Call USPSA office.

My name is Joe!!
And I am Canadian!!!

Hey, I'm not a lumberjack, or a fur trader....
I don't live in an igloo or eat blubber, or own a dogsled....
and I don't know Jimmy, Sally or Suzy from Canada,
although I'm certain they're really really nice.

I have a Prime Minister, not a president.
I speak English and French, not American.
And I pronounce it 'about', not 'a boot'.

I can proudly sew my country's flag on my backpack.
I believe in peace keeping, not policing,
diversity, not assimilation,
and that the beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.
A toque is a hat, a chesterfield is a couch,
and it is pronounced 'zed' not 'zee', 'zed' !!!!

Canada is the second largest landmass!
The first nation of hockey!
and the best part of North America

I just want to shoot US Nationals

My name is Joe!!
And I am Canadian!!!

Well then, I suppose I accidentally got slots. It doesn't say you have to be from that area to get an area slot. So, theoretically I should have been offered at least one slot every year. I still say they pick and choose who they give a slot to, whether you earn it or not. I'm also sure where the nationals are held makes a difference. Last year, everyone wanted to go to Tulsa for the Open/Production, so they were stingy with the slots. I'm sure Montana is a hard sell this year, so there are more slots to go around.

slots for cndns

I won a slot at the A1 in Missoula, when I recieved the phone call from USPSA it was explained to me that someone had made an error and gave a slot to a cndn ie foreign competitor. At that time USPSA decided to make it fair and offer any other class wins to cndns for the 2005 year as well.
My understanding that this was a exception and would not be repeated.

But who knows maybe they have carried on with the tradition.
