I just picked up a beautifully maintained 1950 LB Lee Enfield. It has a "T" on the barrel. I say beautifully maintained with regards to the metal. This thing is like brand new, however, it sports a bubba'd set of furniture that is split and has been drilled and tapped with a scope (sort of) on it. Original front and rear sights have been removed and I would like to make it a little more accurate. Bore slugs at .314", no throat erosion to speak of. Wrapped in a blanket, back of cabinet in an attic.
I am now looking to put in a Timney trigger, ream it out to .303Br AI, clean it up, tune up the headspacing, mount a better scope on it, and make it a shooter.
So, first I need a trigger group. I can order from out east but I would prefer to order form a sponsor here. If no luck, then I will just order anyway from out east.
Any suggestions would help. Thanks,
RW

So, instead of restoring a pretty scarce collectors`piece, you`re going to destroy it completely....

What`s wrong with the Number 4 trigger just the way it is, I wonder. They are absolutely idiot-proof the way they are, completely safe and they can be tuned to give a very nice letoff with just a little work. The double pull, BTW, is a safety feature.

When I said sights were removed, I meant exactly that. Front blades that protect the sight were filed off. Rear sight mounts were also filed off. There is nothing there to restore to. I am sorry. I have several other #4's with original triggers that I have left as is, but I figured that since this one had been butchered, I mights as well do something I have read a lot about on other pages and install an aftermarket trigger. If it was salvageable, believe me, I'd just buy furniture for it and put it back to original, but I can't, so I'll experiment. Not like I can ruin it, now, can I?

The 'Enfield' trigger on Timney's site is for a Pattern 13/17 and not a Lee-Enfield. They don't make a trigger for Lee-Enfields. Don't recall ever seeing aftermarket triggers for Lee-Enfields.
"...furniture that is split..." Where? Splits and cracks can sometimes be fixed with epoxy.
"....303Br AI..." That'd be a .303 Epps.
Headspace gets checked, not tuned. It's either good or it isn't. Check it before you do anything.
"...Bore slugs at .314"..." High end of diameter. Factory ammo uses .311" or .312" bullets and the bullet makers are likewise. Steve at .303British.com, seasonally, makes .314" 200 grain FMJ bullets though. You may want to have a look a this book too.

Brownells sells a .303Br AI reamer, Hornady makes .303Br AI dies. Looking at P.O. Ackley's records, he further improved what Elwood Epps did. Moved the shoulder even more forward and took even more taper out of the case sides.

Taking the opportunity to ream out the chamber also will allow me to set the barrel back to "tune" the headspace so that it will take a "0" bolthead. That's tuning to me.
I have all of Steve's books, and I have several hundred of his bullets. I have used them in an older enfield I have that has a large bore.

Thanks, Tooner, I forgot it was CanWest that had them. Ordered. Thanks again.

No disrespect but this is probably not the right forum to discuss the continued sporterizing of a lee enfield. You may have better success in the gunsmithing forum. If you wanted to restore this rifle then that would be a completely different situation - we would be all ears to assst in that worth while endeavor :) .
