Not really sure.
So I just picked a new one up yesterday, have not fired it yet, played around with it some and it seems like a solid little gun.

Trigger is nice, action is a little stiff but will work itself smooth eventually. The only plastic I can see anywhere is the mag tube plug. Other wise it's all steel and hardwood.

So question is? Are they all they are cracked up to be and am I pretty correct on them being solid or do they have some underlying quality issues and gremlins?

What has your experience been with them?

I really like it so far so I hope it does not turn out to be a dud.

Thanks.

Sold mine on friday after owning it since this spring, never got out and shot it, just didn't seem as mystical in person. I still think they are neat, especially beings that they are Canada's shortest Non-Restricted.

Just wasn't on my "gotta have" list and was taking up valuable space in the safe! ;)

I had to ask to look at a few before I found mine. The first two I looked at had issues with bad wood, canted sites, felt rough. The third was it though, compared to the other two it was no question, fit and finish looked good. I probably would have passed on the ranchhands had three sub par examples in a row went in front of me, wouldn't have asked to see a fourth.

As to function? No problems with anything I have put through it and cycles nicely. It is stock but I spin cocked it a whole bunch (empty of couse) to break it in a bit and smooth out the action. A bit of light grease on the locking lug surfaces and that is all I have done. I don't have a crazy round count but everything I have tried has fed, fired and ejected. No groups to brag about, I wanted to put a full length buttstock on it and upgrade the sights before I tried for accuracy, unfortunately it is a project that has been set aside for now.

Anyway just my opinion

Ok thank you for your input. I may have got lucky, mine has very nice fit and finish. I feel I got more firearm than I paid for quality wise.

Was just hoping that they are as mechanically robust and reliable as they look.

Had one in .44, fun gun. shot about a hundred rounds. I sold it cause it did not like cast lead rounds, leaded up like a biatch. Maybe after a couple thousand plated it might smooth it out for lead.

That's unfortunate that it likes to foul itself up on soft bullets. Glad I have not seen much about mechanical failures ect though, thanks for posting.

Also Claven2, that thread was very helpful, thanks.

FWIW, I run factory loaded lead in the .357 all the time, mostly .38 SPL, and it doesn't really lead up at all. The .44 Mag loaded full-bore will lead up most guns, even with gas checks. You would need to load down around .44SPL loads to avoid that IMHO.

My lead loads are load book velocity at 900 and under fps. Not know but just my experience with one.

I have one, shoots good, smoothed out after a few rounds and some extra empty cycles while watching TV one evening. The sights weren't very good so I replaced the rear one with the marbles bullseye. Way better now. I shoot mostly plinker loads out of it and some full power jacketed. No issues ever with leading. I added a bit to the LOP so it shoulders now like a kids gun. Still short though. The kids love it.

I'm enjoying mine in .44 as well. I stripped it down, polished it with a dremmel and emery nail files and some lithium grease and it runs very well. I will eventually this winter change to the peep sight/safety and maybe some lighter springs, but it is shooting well at the bottom of the buckhorns for now and refinish the stocks. Easily as good as higher priced mares legs with a little work.

That's what I like to hear, thanks for the input. I'll be taking mine out for a test run vs some pumpkins on the weekend, see how it does.

Have a 357 and a 44. Like them both. I reload using copper plated bullet and have not had any lead issues. Also bought a full stock in matching walnut from Rusty Wood that can be swapped in a couple of minutes. Now you have a Rossi 92 with a 12" barrel. Also have a top rail from http://www.mod94scoperail.com.
