who here uses Vortex optics?

I have two of their rifle scopes. The Diamondback 2-7X35 BDC and the Viper 6.5-20X44 fine plex reticle. The Diamondback sits on top of my T/C Encore, and the Viper is on a Savage 112 single shot heavy barrel 22-250. Neither has many shots on them, but the glass is very clear and bright on both. Warranty promises to be second to none, and is handled right here in Canada!

I have two Vipers on rifles right now with two more 50mm's in the mail right now to me. I mounted a 6.5-20x44 with dead hold BDC reticle on a 243 sps varmint with an EGW 20moa base and Burris Tacticle rings. Had it at the range monday and was pounding sub-moa groups from 100-400m after setting it up.I cranked the elevation and windage turrets a bunch and found that repeatability was first rate as was clarity. the light transmission at near dark was far superior to my Bausch and Lombe 6-24x40 (pre-bushnell elite 4200) which I also brought along. with the Vortex on 10x power I could see better/clearer than on 6 with the B&L in the darkening conditions. I am thoroughly impressed. They arent a Nightforce by any means of course but they are definately a phenomenal value and perform a good as many scopes costing much more

Camera Land (see it in the sponsor banners) has them. while I don't think the promo bino's are any good (not 'really' good anyhow), when you buy any riflescope by Vortex, they include a free 8x40 Audubon's.

in a twist, what is thought of Sightron? their S1 line is comparative to the Burris Fullfield II and just a step beneath the Bushnell 3200's for quite a bit less then what they cost. $170 new at Frontier. I'm thinking of that, or a Legend/Banner for my Marlin XL7. :)

I got my Vortex Viper from the powderkeg in kamloops.. great service.

The scope is a great value for the money, imo. It's quite clear and very bright and seems to be very well built.

I had the pleasure of testing out a brand new 6.5 x 20 by 44 Vortex Viper Rifle Scope, with the Dead Hold-BDC Reticle this weekend. List price on this scope is $589.00 on sale for $ 509.00 from (And don't laugh) A small independent fish store in Edmonton.

Knowing that they sell all of the Vortex line of spotting scopes and Binos and they had a couple of the rifle scopes in stock, I asked them to bring in this scope so I could give it a try. (They have 1 more left)

My first impression was quite good, the fit and finish is quite nice and the controls easy to use and well placed. The turrets are covered and the adjustments are very crisp and easy to see and feel. All adjustment knobs are designed so that you can see where they are from the back of the scope including the side paralax adjustment and the power adjustment. The adjustments work much like Bushnell's new 6500 line, as in, once you get it zeroed you simply lift up on the adjustment knob and zero it. This scope also has the advantage of indicator lines on both the elevation and windage adjustments, a feature lacking on the 6500 series.

Optics are fairly clear for a scope in this price range, it is not a $ 1,200 Leupold but it is at least as clear as the 4200 or 6500 series bushnell.

I found the BDC Dead Hold Reticle interesting but I found it to be heavier and thicker than I would like. This reticle pattern is very much like the Burris "Balisticplex" pattern and seems to work quite well. It is also very well explained in the included manual that comes with the scope.

Ranges tested were 100m, 200m and 300m mounted on my heavy barrel .223 Savage. I used this rifle in the "Sniper Match" at Spruce Grove on the 6th of July as a test for this scope and I was suitable impressed, not by my shooting but by the scope itself.

The manuals for both the scope and the use of the recticle are very well written and comprehensive. I would recomend reading both of these manuals before using any rifle scope. These people have had some good advice and put it on paper for the purchaser to read and use.

My overall impression, this Scope is a good buy for the money and has some features found on some far more expensive optics with the added benifit of having a nice "Look" to it as well. It really is a decent scope for the price and I like some of the features a lot. The ability to simple look slightly above the eyepiece and see what power you are on, the paralax setting and the elevation and windage settings is a really nice feature.

I just called the Powderkeg today and ordered one with the Dead Hold BDC reticle. I'll be going in to see them Monday to get some rings. Hope to have it out at the range next weekend. :)

Bought it today, mounted it tonight. Bought a double rifle case case too (big enough for the rifle with scope mounted). Range box all loaded up- tell ya about it tomorrow night. :D

Not much to tell so far- I got it more or less zeroed for 300 yds, but it was truly crappy weather: constant 20mph wind from left to right, gusts to 30, rain. I hope to have it out next weekend, and get it properly zeroed with a target, not a gong.
Initial impressions: excellent clear glass, but I'm new to this, so what do I judge it against? The thickness of the cross hairs are fine for 300 to say 500, but it may be an issue at 1000, we'll see. I had it on max zoom the whole time (didn't have mirages to worry about) Eye relief is a little over 3", never came close to being scoped. I'm having to get used to keeping my glasses more in line with the eyepiece, but hey, it's all early days yet, and overall, I'm quite happy with this scope.
It's a joy to be able to aim at and hit the centre of a 12 X 18" gong, not just centre a dayglo orange gong in the aperture and hope for the best.
