Kills deer quite dead at close range. I load my handy compact lightweight Ruger Deerfield Carbine with 240gr Hornady XTP bullets at 1700 fps MV -

Did previously ...with 3. A 44-40 Model 92 rifle converted to 44 Mag, a Ruger first model carbine and an 1894 Marlin. Took several whitey's and 3 black bear with the first 2.

I have shot 8 or 9 deer with various .44 Mag's... 4 or 5 with 240 SWC out of Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles... I like the smack sound when you hit them at close range with that combo... the last three or four were shot with Hornady 225 FTX bullets over 24.0 grains of H110 from a couple different Ruger 77/44's... I found this combo to be far more consistently accurate... the last one was a medium sized eight pointer at 125 yards, shot through the lungs he went about 40 yards... very lttle damage around the entry/exit wounds... bullet kept on trucking...

I've got one of these as well and just love it.It's wearing a Bushnell XLT 1.5-6 x 44.Hits em hard and they never get up !

Yeah?

Who does hunt with a 44 mag?

?: - Why would you hunt any animal,
- which you intend to consume,
>> with a .44??

To answer your posted question...I enjoy the long range surgical precision of a .25-06 with which to harvest my game,
not a barn door driver .44mag...

although I do respect the .44 mag, had one, sold it.

I have a nice ruger no 3 in 44mag and it s a deer killing machine, compact , light weight and will stop a deer in its tracks under a 100yards where most of my deer are shot

I'm going to give the brass break action singles from Henry a go in .44 Mag and .45/70... would love to find a thinly jacketed .429"-.430" SP for use in the .44 single, designed to expand at lower velocity, akin to the 350 SP made by Hornady for the .45/70.
