Who is using The Load for cheap shooting

Considering the time and effort of casting what I do I prefer 4198 for more velocity and usually better accuracy. I do have a bunch of "Promo" which is Red Dot for all intents and purposes I was once using for exactly that though. If I found free lead as easily as others seem to I would go back to it.

As bullet casting is a subset of the shooting and reloading community most who reload using regular load books never see the cast load data. For me the old Lyman cast book #3 which is not hard to find on line gave me the most options for the most economical load options. You are correct that powders like Red Dot and Unique and other common pistol and shot gun powders work great with cast loads in most rifles.

I use Reddot but I backed it off. My 308 I use 12grn with 150grn and my 303 11.3 grn as I use 123grn bullets. I get acceptable accuracy and good for plinking.

303 Br seems to be a good option for cheap shooting of cast bullets, with the exception of sourcing brass. There are loads of bullet options and numerous powders seem to work.

I found heavy cast bullets commercially for sale for $45 / 100. For simple plinking, there are 120gr bullets available for $40 / 250. Combine that w a pound of pistol powder and tons of ammo could be made very cheaply.

I have been shooting a similar "Load" in varying powder types, charges, cartridges, bullet weights, and rifles for many years. 700X has been my mainstay powder, mostly because I have lots of it and it works for me. I use 700X almost exclusively for cast bullet loads.

I am not going for big velocity. I'm not interested in "max" anything. All my "Loads" are for informal target shooting or killing rocks and steel.
