I wonder if their eyesight was poor during the Boer War.....
Maybe they're not really British military Broad Arrows, but instead are there to point to the end you're supposed to look through!

The case and binos are definately a matched set considering makers marks and those funky arows

Have you done a web search for the maker in order to establish a time frame? Stamped arrows would indicate military issue.
Not sure when porro prism binos became popular. The 19th C binos I've seen seem to be of roof prism design.

I,ve got a bunch of WW1 binos here and those are of the same pattern.....Am going to list 2 pairs on Ebay this week...Most of mine are the Cdn type ...contracted from Bausch and Lomb, Rochester NY, Early in the war but I have a pair of Wesson and sons english made,which are very much like yours although the broad arrows are on the barrel bottoms.....nice pair you have there.
