Found this yesterday in the woods...

What kind of den is this?

No tracks that I could see. It was close to a beaver dam. You can see the tips of my skis at the bottom of pic 1 for scale. The bottom right (tail drag?) in pic 1 was there when I got there.

With the discolored snow...blood????? it sure looks like a weasel or ermine den. The taildrag is actually a wing sweep from no doubt a bird of prey...owl or hawk.

Agree, or wait now maybe one of those little western coyotes.

I would guess a weasel got in a fight with a bird of prey and lost.
