2x8 sounds great to me for my new m14(m305) but I have no idea who makes a good one out there- Im a total scopenewb.

Im trying to keep it mounted low and light as possible since the guns so heavy- is there a sacrifice to having a light scope/rings as far as wandering zero/image quality?

can you get light(ish) rings that are decent and dont cost $250?

thanks optics-wise!

I have a couple of scopes in this general power range - 2 1/2-8 - not 2-8.
One is a Bushnell 6500. Decent sight, although these tend to have rather long eye relief, which can make mounting interesting.
The other is a Leupold Mark 4.
There are lots of options for lighter rings that will fit a 1913 or Weaver base. The meat will be in the base, not the rings. M-14 mounts tend to be fairly large.

Bushnell also made a 3x10x40mm compact that I really like. Only about 11.5" long, and around 13ozs. I find it is not much bigger or heavier than my 1.5-4x32 elite. Don't see them all that often, but they were like $170 shipped on ebay before the export rules...

nightforce 2.5-10x24 or 32, near about's the same overall size as the others perhaps smaller than some, but with 10X to boot :)
