I'd like to suplement my battery with a new (er) 6,5x55. I have two mausers in this caliber and I love it.
I'm looking for something light weight, irons are a must... Accuracy should be a given.

Knowing what my options are should motivate me to save enough to buy one by fall season..... (just bought a couple and the couch is not so confortable nowadays:redface: )

What rifle fits my description?

Irons are gonna be the killer for you... CZ makes a very nice rifle in 6.5x55 (http://www.cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=18); no sights. Winchester did their now-discontinued featherweight and featherweight classic model 70 in the Swede; no sights. Remington had the single year of 6.5x55 in their Classic series; no sights. I'm sure you could get a Montana in 6.5 (http://www.montanarifleman.com/barreled_actions.htm); no sights. Sako makes their Finnlight in 6.5 and it's a doozy; no sights. Tikka makes their T3 and T3 light in 6.5, both are affordable and accurate; no sights.

If you're dead-set on a 6.5x55 in a rifle with iron sights, I think you're pretty much looking at a military or commercial mauser, or getting some custom work done to one of these stock rifles.

Ruger made one in 6.5, but alas no irons. Tikka made the 595 in 6.5, with iron sights as an option (I have one), but I wouldnt call the rifle light...

You could buy any of the newer rrifles in 6.5X55 and put a GOOD set of irons ( read peepsights!) on them.
Most of the open sights available on factory rifles are woefully inadequate....

Why are irons a must? Are you ever going to use them?
In heavy brush hunting they are a must. I'm using a sporterized Swede 38 in 6.5x55 with a set of Williams FP rear peepsight and Firesight front. Anything under 50m and where both eyes open are needed for a moving deer makes the irons necessary. One could always throw on EO Tech or red-dot too, but then you add more weight and cost. I like the fact of a slim, light, no scope rifle for moving through heavy brush very much. You'll find that quite a lot here in bush country Ontario.

The links don't work for me Bishopus and i'm VERY curious about the CZ

Yeah, looks like CZ is using cold war interw3b technology: go here (http://www.danwessonfirearms.com/)--that's CZ USA homepage. Click on 'big bore centerfire rifles' on the upper left, should take you to this page (http://www.danwessonfirearms.com/products_bigbore_rifles.php?m=1).

From here you can check out individual product pages for the 550 American (no sights), or the 550 FS ('full stock', a mannlicher rifle with iron sights---probably doesn't fit your 'light n' handy' requirement though). Enjoy!

Factory 6.5x55mm's....

Actually, that Tikka is the 695 [long action]... I have one, too in stainless/synthetic. What a tack driver.

Remington also did the Classic one year in 6.5x55mm.... also a very nice rifle...

On any Tikka T3 in synthetic/blue, iron sights are an option. I have irons on my 9.3x62 Tikka. Get your local dealer to place an order for you - it will take awhile but you'll get what you want.

Here's my T3 with iron sights:

Try this store and see what they say. Give us a range report after you get it.

Good luck.

thank you very much!

I don't know if installing new iron sights is feasable. I'm not saying that my scope will fail and therefore I need them, but I like having them on a rifle, and I think they worth while.

I am too sorry that there is no offernig in this caliber in the Tikka Battue line. I'd sure like the "added confort" of a CRF rifle, but having owned a Tikka, I liked the smooth action so much,,,

I'll look at all the rifles you named and try to make up my mind, But if there are more, I'll be happy to find out about them..
Thanks again.... and keep them coming:)

I started my post before you posted and didn't see your post.
I'll give them a call tomorrow.:dancingbanana: I don;t yet have all the money, but that's a good thing, because I'm an impulsive buyer not strange enough of buyer's remorse:redface: ... so by the time I get the dough, I'll hopefully made up my mind:cool: . Thanks dudu.

I have Tikka T3 HV in 6.5x55, waited for that rifle one year.
It is one of my most accurate rifles.

A nice one, if you could still track one down would be the model 70 Featherweight. The chambered the 6.5 until it's demise. No sights, but some bubblegum and duct tape could fix that. Hey, come to think of it, that has worked for Dodge for years.:p
