Preference to a break with a collar self indexing like the Fat Bastard, and even more impressive if shrouded like the Surefire warden or Griffin...

Having issues finding anything decent in this caliber and thread pitch

Thanks!

Why do you want to break your muzzle?

“brake” yes auto correct is a thing...

It’s for a 45-70 figured I’d have the best luck looking here for large caliber threading...

Looks like the dealer is just gonna do a custom milled one for me. I specifically wanted the cooler so I can pop it on and off as needed depending on what I’m using it for.

I’ll leave this up though cause no dealers I’ve found yet carry one in this thread not sure how common it is other than 450 bush.

Brakes tend to do better with faster rounds in my experience.

It's more a factor of gas volume then muzzle velocity. A brake on a 308 is a bigger reduction versus an identical brake on a 223, despite the 223 being faster. A brake on a 45-70 should be pretty effective.

Between two similar cartridges with one being faster, then yes, the higher gas velocity at the muzzle will make the difference there.

And don’t get me wrong, the 1895 marlins are kittens with those big jell but stocks on them but I’m buying the new Dark series 45-70 and having a threaded muzzle without a brake is just no fun lol. I believe it will help more with speed back on target for a follow up shot.

If we were aloud slilencers I would be slapping one of those on instead.

Not in my findings. If you are running a 308 comp on a 223 I can see it not working well.just look at race pistols. The 38super/9mm major vs a 45

Maybe I should re-phrase. When I say identical brake, I mean the same design but appropriately sized.

What I meant was speed and off gassing is very important to the way the comp works. 38 supers work better then a 45acp

Your 38 super versus 45 acp actually supports my gas volume argument.

What is the typical powder charge for each? We will go with major PF. 38 super uses what, 8-10gr of powder? 45 ACP uses 4-5gr? That's exactly what I'm saying, greater powder charge = greater gas volume = more effective brake.

Compare that with 308 versus 223.

38 Super: more powder - more gas volume - faster muzzle velocity - faster gas speed -> Muzzle brake more effective
45ACP: less powder - less gas volume - lower muzzle velocity - slower gas speed -> Muzzle brake less effective

223: less powder - less gas volume - faster muzzle velocity - faster gas speed -> Muzzle brake less effective
308: more powder - more gas volume - slower muzzle velocity - slower gas speed -> Muzzle brake more effective

Effectiveness correlates with gas volume, not speed.

There's an in progress .458 SOCOM barrel order happening with TNA. They were talking about getting 11/16" x 24 brakes made for them when they come in. But who knows when that will be, last update was the barrel mfg in the states was waiting for chamber reamers.
